Sorry, if I should post this as an individual trip report, but I'm thinking it's relevant in this thread. I've lurked on BL for years, but finally got around to registering so here goes my first post.
Anyways...Back in high school when we would do drugs without considering the consequences, 4 of my buddies and I (names -> 'B - me', 'LJ - @ his house', J 'had seizure', 'L & D - other 2 participants') each ate outrageous amounts of amanitas which were dried caps btw. However, this was unusual since we typically referred to Erowid before embarking upon a new drug experience, and even as stupid as the actions in the following report are, at least half of us had briefly read about this fungus on Erowid...but being young and dumb with the assumption that most of us still had all 9 lives left, we ignored the dosage recommendations on Erowid and all consumed a strong to very-strong dose.
All 5 of us were quite experienced given our age and had tripped mushies and LSD multiple times along with basically every other common recreational drug, so we figured we could handle some
bitch-made legal shrooms (yeah right) so "why not try some mario mushrooms as cheap as they are?"...bad decision #1. Some dude down the street had ordered a very large amount of amanitas off the internet, and was selling them for dirt cheap (oz. for $20) since he just wanted to get rid of them and break even, so we all got an ounce...bad decision #2. I ate half an ounce, and everybody else except L ate roughly an ounce...L ate somewhere between 1.5-2 oz.

...bad decisions #3, 4, 5, 6, & 7.
We were tripping at LJ's house (it was hs) during the afternoon on a Saturday. LJ's mom was home, but pretty much let us do whatever as long as we didn't mess the house up or have cops show up at the door. This was a while back, I don't really have a time frame for the trip. It started off with 4 of us (incl. me). The only good decision we made was tripping in a safe environment with a sober (and tolerant) adult in the house.
Not long after I ate the caps, I got incredibly nauseous, and to this day, the only nausea I've experienced that's comparable to the queasiness that came with eating a half oz of amanitas would be alcohol poisoning and 100mg 2C-I orally (accidental overdose). I threw up at least 10 times and the projectilve vomiting continued throughout the first few hours of the experience. However, after I threw up a couple of times, the amanitas started making their presence known somewhere in my brain area.
So I started to trip, or whatever the hell you want to call the amanita experience, and I wouldn't necessarily say I had visuals, but rather visual distortion. For example, whatever I would look straight ahead at would appear in my peripheral on both sides, so say I was looking straght ahead at the TV, I would see at least 3 of the TV's...one in my left peripheral, one in my right peripheral, along with the TV being in my central line of vision...visual example.
I couldn't put thoughts into words either. Since this was a while ago, I don't remember any thought details, but if I tried to say something it would come out as pure gibberish. Since I was mentally and physically incapacitated, due to discomfort caused by nausea along with severe motor function impairment, I just laid on the bed in my own little world. I don't want to say I had a bad trip because I didn't in the usual sense of a 'bad trip'. It was just strange an uncomfortable...there never was any fear that me or anyone else was going to freak out. Even during the shit that went down in this next paragraph, we all maintained relatively calm, aside from D & L leaving as soon as the shit hit the fan.
This is where shit got scary...A few hours into the trip, J started having a seizure, and his eyes rolled in the back of his head. D & L got scared and left...L ran home in the rain (he lived less than a mile away), and D drove home, and to this day, I have no idea how D (or L for that matter) made it home without crashing...even if it was only a five minute drive, he had to drive on a main road with heavy traffic in the rain none-the-less. By the time J started having his seizure, I had began to come down and regained partial control of my motor functions.
Anyways, back to J having a seizure...J had absolutely no history of seizures. I'm pretty sure he was taking Zoloft at this time, so keep in mind that taking amanitas while on SSRI's might be dangerous, and I'm sure there's more info regarding the combo that's easily accessibly through a quick Google search. LJ and me went and got LJ's mom and told her to come see what the fuck was going on, since she was a nurse. She asked LJ if he had any Xanax or Valium in the house, since I assume she thought that we had consumed magical mushrooms of the psylocybin variety. He didn't have any nor did she have anything, and since J's jaws were locked if we had anything to give him, it would've had to been IV'd anyways. He started seizing in a recliner, but when LJ's mom came in the room, we picked him up and laid him on the ground and put a cold wet towel on his forehead.
He continued to seize for a few more hours, and out of nowhere he came to. Me, LJ, and LJ's mom told J that he had a seizure and had been seizing for the past few hours, he didn't believe us until we showed him pictures and videos of himself we had recorded on our phones.
I haven't done amanitas since nor have I had any interest in doing so. Because of this, I haven't looked into adverse reactions caused by taking amanitas while on SSRI's. I know they do not work like tryptamines, but it would not surprise me if they have some sort of action on serotonin receptors. If so, I'd say that the Zoloft thrown in the mix increased the likelyhood of having a seizure. I just read a few posts up though, that amanitas can cause seizures on their own so who knows? We all took such a high amount, so if they can cause seizures, we definitely took enough to cause one.
In conclusion, I can verify that amanitas definitely have toxic properties. I don't know any details about the toxicology of amanitas. Like any other drug, be careful with dosing, and it's always better to start small and check for any adverse reactions before attempting to go all out. Given the toxic properties of amanitas. I don't see why anyone would consume them more than once since curiosity is an understandable reason to try mario mushrooms once...especially with all of the wonderful phenthylamines and tryptamines available in the US RC market. That, and of course real mushies always seem to be easy to get a hold of. Even if amanitas have been consumed for thousands of years by humans, that does not mean they are completely safe...I have no idea but I don't think they're overly dangerous (not in the same realm as PMA or 4-MTA) as far as causing death or else there wouldn't be a long history of human use, but I'm guessing the Vikings that ate amanitas before going into battle weren't too concerned about the toxicology of them so using that as proof of their safety is probably not legit. Although, if you're really curious about trying amanitas, I say go for it...there are far more dangerous drugs that are consumed regularly (i.e. strict serotonin releasers) so just trying them once or twice probably won't do too much harm as long as you don't consume insane amounts like my dumbass. IMO, amanitas are not worth it...however, I don't want to bash them too much since we all took way too much and were asking for trouble. I'm sure a good time can be had if you keep the dosage much lower, but I do want to include that nearly all amanita trip reports include feelings of nausea even if it didn't result in vomiting so be ready for some queasiness if your going to take some...I'd suggest taking a benadryl/dramamine or two to help with the nausea (it always works with 2C-X's or opiates).
