For the past 15 years I've been on and off every opiate you can think of.... it was the dones that finally brought me to my knees.... I've been trying to get off of them for a long time now... I finally got myself down to 40mg every two days... and on friday I took 20mg as a last lowing dose. Saturday I went to the doctor and he wrote me for suboxone. I waited 40 hours after my last 20mg dose of methadone. I took 4mg of subs at 12pm..... an hour later I was still feeling crapy so I took 4mg more. I am still feeling shaky and anxious... should I take another 4mg? Did I start the suboxone to early? I was in full withdrawal when I took it but now I'm worried because it's not working good. I still have that uncomfortable feeling..... what am I doing wrong??? please help!!!!!

i did this very recently except from 30 mg of methadone. also my habit has only been overall 6 months of almost-daily use within a year, 6 months of it was weekly or twice weekly which is impossible to maintain. [it was also heavy very quickly since i was needling and had plenty of opiate experience beforehand, albeit in sporadic, yearly binges] so remember how withdrawals get worse each time you get in and out of the dope habit.

anyway, suboxone wasnt cutting it even after 10 days, titrating my dose up and down, so i just cold turkey off it. i took a tramadol 300 the last two days to help with WD's, which i have practically none of anyway :D only occasional sweats/chills and that gloomy/unenthusiastic feeling.

i recommend you doing the same if suboxone doesnt cut it for you after another month or so [i obviously wouldnt want to recommend doing what i did since i dont know you] dropping opiates altogether. maintenance isnt for everyone. at this point i much prefer sobriety with the occasional torments of cravings and longing for a fix, to feeling just barely content and still horribly attached to an opiate - albeit done or sub instead of the others. of course its only been a few days off opiates so im really talking out of my ass but i hope this works. i feel sick of opiates and i have learned to just hate them. hopefully that disgust will make me withdraw my hand from touching them again. at least until im 90 or something :)

the reason i suggest thinking about dropping suboxone after you're "regulated" [so you're wd'ing from subs not done, which is much easier for most people], weaning down or CT is because once you have been on morphine, heroin and methadone, i dont see how suboxone will do the "full trick". it didnt for me and im a junior addict compared to you i think.

i think CT is very useful for making you remember continuously that opiates have a terrible ending so to up the odds of not doing it again. without that natural hangover. i dont see how humans would learn when it comes to addictive substances.

please help yourself,
love

Thank you .... I've been through this whole withdrawal thing so many times.... I'm just so sick of it. I have very bad anxiety which I've had since I was a little girl... which is what always causes me to start using again... I think the suboxone is working for now but just barely. I'm thinking about lowering my dose each day .... so that I'm only on this for a week. I want to be free of ALL opiates. 15 years is just too long... I've taken 12mg today and don't feel awesome but I'm able to function... how much do you think I should go down each day?

I don't know how you are supposed to take your Suboxone, but I take it you have to do what I (and most other people, I think) do: put them under the tounge and let them dissolve. This takes about 10 minutes. Let them dissolve completely until they are mush and then swallow. They should work within an hour, 90 minutes tops, but you may have to take a larger dose. I wouldn't normally say this, but I really don't think you need to be worried about overdosing. What you need to accomplish right now is get rid of the horrible withdrawals (I know exactly what you are feeling, I felt that way nomore than a few months ago). I was down to 1.25mg of methadone (yes, 1 and 1/4 of a mg), and I was given the 8mg tablets. If I were you I would keep taking Suboxone until the withdrawals were at least severely reduced. This should be achievable nomatter the person. Please note that I'm not saying this is the right thing to do, but it is what I did and I now take 0.8mg of Buprenorphine (Temgesic) everyday.

I hope you shake the withdrawals (I'm sure of it, but you may need to give it more time and not just more Buprenorphine).

I hadn't seen your last post, and know your question wasn't referred to me, but I had the same motivation (and still do), but as my doctors said, it's no use if you rush things, because you'll just end up with withdrawals you can't endure and then you'll increase your dose instead of reducing it. That's what happened to me (several times) anyway. If I were you, (I seem to be using that expression a lot) I'd be happy with just finding the right dose for now, and then taper SLOWLY. You don't HAVE to be clean in two weeks, although it would be nice, everyone feels that way. But the question is, is it a realistic goal? Why not increase the probability of success to, say, 90% and be clean in two months instead? Somehow it seems a lot smarter to me. As you said yourself, you are able to function.

very true... every time I have rushed this in the past I end up right back where I started.... I'm so use to the "high" you get from the methadone... I think the weird feeling I have right now is because this is the first time in a while that I feel sober... without feeling like death. My doctor says due to my extensive history with opiates I should stay on the subs for at least 3 months.... I just don't want to end up in withdrawals from the subs.... When I got into the methadone I didn't research it... had I known about the withdrawals and the extended time you go through them I never would have chose to get off heroine and pills that way...

I too have that feeling of sobriety with my 0.8mg Buprenorphine/day. I practically feel clean, and want to BE clean... NOW! But it just doesn't work that way, sadly. Anyway, I can see you got my point and don't need to tell you the same thing twice, but I hope you decide to take my advice because this is the part of the tapering process where one just cannot afford to relapse, not after all that hard work. That's what's keeping me from the heroin I believe.

Regarding the ending up with Suboxone-withdrawals part, I can pretty much guarantee you won't end up with withdrawals caused by Suboxone (you're already addicted to opiates, so if it isn't Suboxone, it's Methadone, and if not Methadone, Heroin, and so on), it's just a question of reducing the dosage with the right amount in time. 1mg per week may seem to take forever, but even that may be too much. I have been on Suboxone, Subutex, and Temgesic (three Buprenorphine-products) for a very long time, and not just once, but never in my tapering process(es) have I experienced withdrawal, except for the times when I rushed things as we discussed earlier. I have a great deal of knowledge and especially experience with these things (Buprenorphine tapering), so I'm confident I can answer and relate to almost any question you might have (except perhaps the molecular formula, but that's what Wikipedia is for ;-) )

By the way, did the Suboxone help with the withdrawals?

^ that is completely true. my last tramadol wore off, and man can i feel the lack. i feel so shakey and wired that i could peel myself alive. jesus why did i choose this path! guide me to thine light!

i relapsed after 3 months on methadone and suboxone and i feel like i did waste a lot of time away from my DoC. now im back to square one. so thats also very true d3xo-fan about the relapsing. but maintenance is a very flimsy way of dealing with opiate addiction. of course there is only one thing [and as far as we know a couple obscure unresearched methods] that might be better: state-of-the-art, long-term rehab. which is unfortunately unavailable as far as i know except for a huge price. that is the sad reality i guess.

take care

added note:
a very useful practice to help with recovery, in my experience, has been to very calmly analyse and integrate your addiction- experience and knowledge. that way you build a filter made out of logic - the mind is a VERY powerful thing. tap into your special centres. release those godly energies to protect you and give you strength in a time of dire need.

... thank you guys so much.... I will definitely take all advice given... This is my first day using this site and it's great to hear other peoples stories.. I also am starting to realize he more I read and hear other peoples stories the stronger I feel.... Makes me realize I'm not the only one going through this.... thank guys :)

Taking buprenorphine after methadone typically results in precipitated withdrawal if you didn't wait long enough. Since this is basically what I expect you have found out by now I am going to close this thread. PM me if you have any more questions.
