I mean, I know I'm paranoid. Not to the degree of being 'clinically diagnosed' as paranoid or qualifying for such a diagnosis, but am extra, extra cautious about certain things and second guess people's motives. I guess I'm highly skeptical and generally don't trust people and look for alterior motives. I always have. Comes from my childhood.

But after being a member here for years, albeit mostly not posting while posting a lot recently, I have never gotten a PM asking to hook someone up. Until the other day. It was a fresh acct, prob registered that day, zero posts. I reported the post but what came to mind was that a regular member may have created this acct for the sole purpose of doing this for one reason or another. There were a couple of instances where I could have offended I member with a post, although I thinhk i try hard NOT to do this. MY initial suspicion was that a regular user created a new acct and pm'ed me this request because they had some sort of issue with me and was trying to get me into trouble or something like this. So in the context of my reporting it I suggested that it be looked into if the person pm'ed other people in the same general area that I live in. This way I would know if I was being targetted for some reason or if it was what it looked like on it's face, someone looking for a hook up.

I really like this site and speak openly about myself, my issues, etc and it would really sadden me if a member did something like this. I never heard back re: if the person hit up several people in my general area, which would seem to be the logical thing a brand new member with zero posts sending a pm looking for a local hook up would do. Doesn't mean anything as admins and mods and stuff are busy.

I sent a pm back to the person telling them no I dont do this and won't and am here for harm reduction, etc. I think sent another pm a day or 2 later asking the person to take their negative energy elsewhere as I don't want this stuff on BL. But am looking for opinions on if ppl think I am paranoid suspecting this rather than assuming it is what it seems to be on it's face. It continues to bother me, this is why I am making this post.

Re-read the BLUA/TOS and you will find out the reason why you've never gotten a PM asking to hook someone up. 8)

I looked through the reported posts and did not see a record of the reported PM you are referring to. You can report it at anytime, as long as you still have it in your inbox. The report function works the same for PMs as it does for regular posts, and the report icon

is located at the top right of the PM or post. From there the staff can look into the issue further.

The PM you received may have been from a random person that stumbled across this site, a seasoned member that created a new account just to source, or anything in between. There isn't much of a point in speculating, and as long as you don't agree to do anything illegal for them you have nothing to worry about.

In the future you don't have to respond to PMs like that. Just report them, and a moderator will handle it.

So what should I do? Can it be privately tracked, the IP of the acct person? I don't want the person made public even if it is a long term member but want it to be known by the powers that be? Can the acct of the PM'er be looked at to see if they made other similiar PM's? Because if they only made one to me it's pretty clear it was not just a randon 'new acct person' but someone who set up an acct to deliberately send ME such a pm.

People solicit here, they arent supposed to but it certainly happens and you really shouldnt be worrying about it this much. Do as Tommy suggested and report the PM. From there the person will be watched closer and possibly infracted for trying to solicit drugs from you, but otherwise theres not a whole lot that can be done and you really shouldnt worry about it. This kind of thing is not at all unusual.

To blatantly answer your question, yes, you're being paranoid.

My first step was to report it, albeit to admin and not a mod. I suspected it might have been from a new mod or a member here for some time so was concerned that politics may come into play. I'm here for good motives as my very lengthy posts trying to be of help to others should make that obvious.

I want it handled discreetly but do want to know if it's a random new member or someone of the above status. It could be my paranoia, I sent u a pm with some more details. Please pm me or post here to tell me the best way to follow up so I can know how that can be figured out. This is the only site of this kind I belong to b/c I have found that other sites are filled with more cliquish type stuff so only come here to get and give feedback about drug use/s

I did report it initially, I just did so in a roundabout way. After reading the responses here I reported it using the report post/report pm button.

But if it turns out that the person didn't solicit a buch of others (which to me means they are a current member, otherwise join and solicit only 1 person and not everyone from the area your at?) it pisses me off b/c I feel targeted and would like to know if that is what happened of if some random new member simply solicited me in which case it doesn't bother me as I understand it happens as it has happened to me at other places so if that is the case I could care less.

I accept I'm being paranoid and figured that was likely the case, which is why I posted. But also want to know if some underhanded crap went on where someone took offense to something I said and went on to try and screw with me. If so I want the powers that be to know that happened- actually to know WHO did it if it's able to be determined- b/c if it's a new mod or a sr member that's pretty f'ed up IMO. This is a quality site, I try to add to that quality.

Hope it is paranoia on my part, if I were to get feedback in the form info stating that said new member solicited others I would be reassured. If I was the only one solicited I think that is pretty whack and makes NO sense, other than that it is a mod or sr member who took offense to something they had no legit claim to take offense to (or whould have dealt with it thorugh one of the appropriate means of dealing with such things).

If it was a random new member so be it, no prob for me. But a random new member is not gonna create an acct and solicit just ONE person.

Am I going to be able to learn if the member solicited others or just me? This is what I would like to know.

but i can assure you that you aren't the first, or even hundredth, person to report a solicitation PM since i have been on staff.

So I can't even be told IN PRIVATE if they only solicited me or more than just me? Unless the start of your answer is code for "yes, we checked and he solicited more than just you" how can you say I'm paranoid?

I really want to know I'f i'm on a site here where the people that run the site keep their new mods in particular in check or not, that's my primary concern. Without knowing whether or not I was privately targeted it affects the degree of trust I have of the ingerity of the board. A board I put a lot of time into providing help to others here. This feels unfiar to me.

Assuring me that people get solicited in and of itself is no help to me, It's obvious to me this happens. I'm 45yrs old and have been using drugs for over 30 yrs. I've been on the net and various boards for probably 15 yrs, 'solicitation' on such boads is obviously a regular occurence, so again, is not any reassurance in this particular case.

Thank you for the additional info. This is what I was looking for and restores my faith in this site which I have always maintained as a great site. As of this point, because of this post, the rest is not important to me anymore.
