Am I being paranoid? (Greenlighters!)

Few things draw more attention than somebody with single digit post counts making "friend" requests without anybody ever seeing a post of theirs though. Is odd. Am assuming it's some kinda "Facebook" effect where noobs think it means shit to anybody.
Having said that, "friend" requests from folk who you've gotten to know are actually very flattering. Have only had the balls to request once. Cos the fella in question was an absolute legend who I spoke to regularly on forums other than EADD so took ages to get to know him properly. Never had the balls to "friend" an EADDer I don't think. Would feel such an absolute arse if refused
PS: "Friend" status actually does mean shit to anybody I recently(ish) discovered. For reasons Knock mentions - options for allowing PMs and stuff. Never knew about those til very recently but is one of the only real concrete advatages of "friend" status afaik. Other than that is a social nicety I'm not very good at

As an aside, if anyone gets a zero-point GLer PMimg for sources, do report them to us please (I know you all love grassing haha but it is important in this case - very dodgy and we definitely want to know.) They could well be a vendor/shill/scammer/even polis. Certainly don't seem to be here to utilise the HR info, that's for sure.
Personally I ignore friend requests from peeps I've not interacted with.

I friend requested a few people who I had on my other account that I had to abandon for personal reasons.
I have gotten some friend requests from GLers and I think that in most cases it's just a member that wanted to be a more trusted member in the community by being 'friends' with a senior moderator. What they wanted to do with that trust is beyond me, but I only accept said requests when I have had positive interactions with the member.
In some cases they turned out to be an older member back with a new username, and in other cases they were new members that were either very supportive of harm reduction, or perhaps just used to social media sites where having a lot of 'friends' is an important factor to them.
