Benzos Am I at danger of benzo withdrawal?

Hello everyone,

So unfortunately, I ran out of my Chlonazepam prescription over the weekend and wasn't able to get an appointment this month with my doctor due to overbooking of appointments.

I'v been taking .5 mg twice a day for anxiety as needed for about 4 months now non-stop.

I usually take a full milligram only in the morning. The last dose I took was .5 mg in the earlier this morning today, which was my last pill. I'm just wondering whether I will be able to be comfortable until Monday when I will walk into the clinic and ask them for a refill. I just need to make it through Sunday and half of Monday.

I have some left over Ambien from a months ago (which I haven't taken in weeks). I would like to know if Ambien will keep my withdrawals at bay until Monday. I also have some kava, gaba, and some liquid pharmaceutical ketamine which I have been using for depression (don't know if these would help me stay comfortable).

I'm not able to get a hold of my doctor or any other doctor because they do not have personal lines I can call, so if I had some serious withdrawal I would have to go to the ER.

I'm also wondering whether its possible to get seizures, considering my dosage and usage time (I have no histories of seizures btw).

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thank you.

I wouldn't combine alcohol with zolpidem in the OP's case. Because clonazepam has a long half-life, you should be fine going from tonight till Monday morning. Take the zolpidem tonight and tomorrow night if you have trouble sleeping.

I strongly advise against alcohol unless you are desperate. I'm not a doctor, but I don't think you are at seizure risk(agian not a doctor.) You are on a very low dose. I myself have developed a slight benzo habbit since starting Suboxone a year ago, they are not prescribed & I get them 'on the street'. So far I have not have any problems(my main benzo of consumption being klonopin) I've had days where I will just take 2 then other days where it gets up to 15mg,, I have had to stop before due to drug test or trips(didn't wanna take them on a plane) have not had a seizure, only probems I have encountered are deppression and anxiety far worse than it was before. If I were you I would search around for a long acting RC benzo such as Diclazapam I think it's called, this could also come in handy if you are ever running low on your script.
And when you say you have Gaba, do you mean Gaba like you get in the grocery store, or Gabapentin?? If it's Gabapentin, take that, it works wonders(for me anyway) for anxiety if I have no other Benzo's around, and I haven't tried it myself but also Phenibut works on the Gaba receptors and can be found easily and another thing that would be handy to have around if you run out of your meds early. If you can't get ahold of any of those stick with the Kava Kava to help with anxiety(not the kind you get in capsules in the store, but the root that can be found online.) Again, no doctor, but I do not think you are in seizure territory because I have consumed LARGE amounts of benzo's for extended periods of time and stopped and have had no seizure's, but everybody is different. But stay away from the booze.

Edit: Another plus is Klonopin's long half-life (18-50 hours) so there could still be some lingering around in your system. I put this together when I would stop taking it for a week and feel fine, then all of the sudden start getting re-bound anxiety and all that crap. It sucked before this last appointment I stopped taking everything 10 days before & felt anxious way harder to sleep etc... then got back from my appointent took 10mg of Valium felt normal again and fell alseep easily an hour after taking it(had been having problems sleeping when I stopped this time, but that small amount made me feel ok again.

Thanks. Also, is it possible to have surprise seizures in your sleep? I really don't want to be sleeping and suddenly have a seizure. It just doesn't sound like my kind of Saturday night lol

@screaming_skull Or they could make sure they don't run out by planning in advance and staying in communication with their doctor and pharmacy. You know, instead of supplementing their prescription to an already addictive and dangerous to withdraw from drug with an unlimited supply of an untested RC... you're asking for trouble.

@OP I highly doubt you'll have any kind of withdrawal other than some anxiety. And having a seizure is highly unlikely with your dose and amount of time without the clonazepam.

I'm not sure, I've always worried about that also, lol(well not really lol) or when driving, god that would be awful! Also was reading you have Ambein?? How many of those do you have? Those will help you, it's not a benzo but also works on the Gaba receptors, so those will defineately come in handy at night, don't know if you can take it during the day and stay awake. But if you are worried about seiuzers at night(think you should be fine) the ambian should definatley help ya, works on the Gaba receptors.

OP, if you feel any serious withdrawal symptoms take your bottle of clonazepam and go the nearest ER. Be honest and upfront, they'll take care of you.

Yeah I just have gaba from the grocery store. Gabapentin would be nice. I actually do have phenibut lol forgot to mention that. Only because I've been using that for 3 days already and I don't want to get withdrawals from that. But if worst comes to worst I can always resort to phenibut. I'm really just worried about seizures. I'm wondering whether heroin would prevent seizures as I have access to that as well, even though I was a past user and that may not be the best idea.

Yes I picked up a script of Ambien today of 30 5mg pills. I was pissed cuz my doc didn't refill my chlonazepam. But she refilled everything else. Wtf. lol

but i also didn't get to see in her in person so that might be why

That's actually a really good idea. I'm really bad at being assertive and speaking up to health professionals due to social anxiety so bringing the bottle will help for sure.

Get the Valium unless you get drug tested for your klonopin!!! They are both benzo's and are also the two that are used to treat seizures, although you are getting price gougged(some buddy) just go ahead and get them. I would defineately do it to be on the safe side.

yeah i'm just gonna have to lol thanks. ugh some friend he is.

but yeah i don't get drug tested for klonopin. i signed a contract with my doc to test me for heroin usage in order for them to safely put me on klonopin but they never have lol. probably the most dysfunctional hospital/clinic and its a military one too. can't even make an appointment three weeks in advance with them. i hate that place. luckily i'm going to a civilian hospital for med management so hopefully this stuff won't happen again.

Let's be careful with the whole drug test topic ;)

OP, it's a day and a half and you have zolpidem. You'll be fine. I would resist the urge to supplement your script with other drugs, it can be a slippery slope. I watched my dad almost die from a seizure while in withdrawal and I've also had to kick benzos. Neither of us would have ended up in that position if we'd stuck to what was prescribed. I can't emphasize how awful benzo addiction is.

@rhun: Sorry to hear about your incident with your dad. And I agree, benzo addiction is awful. I'm hoping to taper off this stuff asap. I'm getting great results with low dose ketamine for depression and social anxiety. Thank you for your help.

And I would like to thank everyone on this thread for their thoughtful contribution and advice as well. I love the support from this community :)

Very little risk if any of seizure (IMO/IME), given dosage and duration, long(ish) half life will help, but gradually be prepared for the anxiety to grow slowly at first, then spike up, (rebound anxiety), use the Zolpidem for sleep, do your best to get outside, walk about to get some excersive even if you feel weak, and healthy diet will help too. Hobbies and calm activities in a confort zone will help take your mind off the rebound anxiety. If you get slight muscle pains of sorts, 1 gram paracetamol 4x per day max will sort that out fine.

You can handle the day and a half, your life is not in danger, Rhun's advise and reassurance is pertinant, take it all into account, it will be difficult, yes, but once you get your script filled you will get the relief.

Also, regarding next month, try to keep 2 or 3 K-pins for the end of the month, in case, and next month, you can at anytime check how many days till your next scrip, and how many benzos you have, without obsessing, simply if you find it recomforting...

Let us know how it's going or goes, after the 24-36 hours go past.

It will pass. All the best to you brother!

P.s. if low dose ketamine helps, you can use that, but stay low dose... IMO it will help also (not 100% sure about this advice)..

Last thing, great to plan a taper with your doc, just don't rush it, take your time for the taper (ASHTON MANUAL) google and check it out, but you might not need to go that route, do the research, don't hesitate to ask for advice for the taper, and go into it for the right reasons, and motivated, and it will work out! :)

Take 2 Philly cheesesteaks and call your doctor in the morning.

Seriously, not sure why you ran out - the refill schedule should be discussed with your doctor's office from the start. I go to a pain clinic and have to call 3 days in advance for a refill and then must pick it up from the pain clinic and bring to a pharmacy. I also have to make an appointment to see (in person) my doctor/physician's assistant every other month which I book way in advance. I would call the office tomorrow am and tell them the situation. Say that you will pick it up and book an appt. for the next available opening. You can also ask them to refill the exact amount you will need between now and the appointment. I'm not clear why your doctor didn't refill your clonazepam when you were in the office. I would ask why so you know for future reference.

Good luck and don't be afraid to be honest with your doctor.
