Stimulants Am I Alone in my Perception of this "Smell"?

Am I the only one who can detect identifiable and repeated "tinges" of smells in the body odour of an individual after recent heavy use? After hard use, it's not even tinges, it's straight up in my face. I can smell these smells on me and on other people, but only after experiencing the chem myself, IME.

Also, this is mainly for stimulants. I get this for amphetamine and methamphetamine, and for MDMA. As for cocaine, I don't notice one, for whatever reason.

It's like I'm smelling actual drug metabolites and identifying the drugs used after previously sensing the odours from my own use.
 
YES!!! After a few days up hard on it i smell like im sweating ammonia, and it Wont wash off either. I've no idea if anyone else can smell it I've never asked, but i certainly can.
 
Amphetamines and some similar drugs can certainly be smelled in people's body odor, especially if they are using heavily. I've also never noticed any smell in cocaine users but most of my friends have decent hygiene so I'm not sure if it's impossible with sufficient use/lack of washing.
 
For amphetamines, yes, but not the other three; even cocaine I bang if I ever do use it. But I've noticed that I can experience a flash of sensation after IV use in the back of my throat up towards my nose and sinuses. While this flash is not equivalent to the tinges of smell I get, I do find them similar enough to comment on. Perhaps I'm tasting/smelling the drug with these flashes as they infiltrate my taste buds and odour receptors through my veins, and I can relate that to the less intense smells I always detect in other users.

I actually enjoy the smell, distinct from BO, that is. It reminds me of good experiences, and puts my mind in a good state, I find. It's like smelling weed and enjoying the experience, even if tinged a little with bitter nostalgia.

Also, I can detect STIMS in general in urine from smell, again, without cocaine, though I can't differentiate which ones from just urine; apparently I need sweat. lol :P
 
A lot of drugs (including non-recreational ones) produce a taste in the user's mouth when IV'd but this is quite different from being able to smell drugs in someone else's (or your own) body odors such as sweat or urine.
 
yup, your totally right on that. amphetamine, methamphetamine. does make you sweat and stink. ive noticed this mostly with meth tho, nasty :/
 
The amphetamines have a fairly common side effect of makiing people smell different/worse. Other people can efinitely smell it. It usually occurs with larger doses, esp. with amphetamine & methamphetamine.
I think it may be related to the greatly increased metabolic rate the amphetamines cause.

That said, drugs in your bloodstream do circulate through the same parts of your nose that have smell receptors, so you can indeed 'smell' the onset of drugs in your system sometimes.

I know, but they seem a similar sensory phenomenon, when I experience it. Just thought there might be some connection.
 
I can always tell when someone is a heroin user and is in withdrawal by their body odour.

ETA: I can also often tell if someone has been recently snorting cocaine if I get close enough to them. And if someone has been drinking (up to 24 hrs+ previously) that has a very obvious smell. I haven't really noticed with amphetamines - unless it's the smell of smoked meth on their clothes or in their room - but that might be because I haven't done them a whole lot and when I did it was taken IV or orally. I think the more you use a drug the better you get at detecting it in others.

I'd agree entirely that it was something else other than metabolites or the actual chemical, but I can DIFFERENTIATE between smells; if it was amps, meth, or MDMA, without being told beforehand or hinted in any way. It's instantly recognizable to me, often in the very first whiff I get of this particular person. I just don't think my nose can sense quite finely enough the differences between amp and meth metabolic changes, without some chemical/s being produced by each with great enough difference to each other that it is relatively easy to discern who took what. MAYBE my nasal organ is sensitive enough for that, especially subconsciously dominated as it is - but I highly doubt it's sensitive to varying metabolic rate in so reproducible a fashion and perception - at least on a conscious level.

I've smelled amps and meth both from people I didn't even know who must have been tweaking or crashing in public; though only very rarely have I been "lucky" enough to be close to a tweaking stranger. Not MDMA, though that's probably coincidence, I know I could granted the chance. It's definitely unique enough that I don't expect to smell it from random people, and they're both unique enough though similar that I must actually be smelling something I can differentiate with, and not just similar metabolic changes amongst users.

What a funny thread. I thought I was alone here. I'm not an intranasal user and I do notice a certain smell that comes off me at times, not always, when I roll on MDMA or when I've taken LSD or both combined. Not until I sweat do I smell it, but it's very distinct. It just smells like "chemical" is the only way i can describe it.

It never comes when I'm on an adderall binge though so the just straight amphetamines are ruled out for me, only MDMA and LSD and they smell EXACTLY the same everytime, but nobody else around me can smell it. So strange.

You know, it might have been there on LSD for me, I've only done it a few times, not my regular psychedelic, so I can't recall perfectly. But it sounds like it jars an old memory from before I even did stimulants, smelling the LSD smell.

I'm almost positive there's no smell from mushrooms, unless I truly am insane, though. Also, the concentration of whatever causes the smell in the sweat can be controlled by drinking more rather than less water. Perhaps you drink enough and it is diluted, so you haven't yet smelled your own stim-secretions? Or how much amphetamine have you actually taken? One poster before me described it as ammonia-like, but I find it much more subtle and somehow pungent while often subdued. It's like ammonia, somehow, but it's not that smell exactly.

I always binged on hundreds of mg per day when I did use Adderall. I have a natural tolerance to stimulants of all kinds, compared to others, it seems. It takes a lot to get a lot for me. Not so much now, as I've learned to dose better, even making it more enjoyable than it was before due to often accidentally taking just a little too much.
 
lol, that we could.

I'm going to keep this in mind for finding fellow users in the future, though it might surprise and/or cause them anxiety that I know of their usage when they don't even know me. It MIGHT come in handy as a skill someday, I guess, lol.
 
I was just reading earlier than certain drugs are excreted in sweat much more than others (and some not at all), so perhaps that could explain why some drugs are easier to smell in person's sweat/body odour than others.
 
im pretty sure its because it releases some of the chemicals through your pours in your sweat ? which makes ur sweat stink , i get it every time i use , tbh idk why but i dont mind it at all , its potent but ... idk lol .

Some drugs (illicit, prescription, and OTC) definitely release more of a distinct scent through the skin / sweat than others. One of the strongest IME is Guaifenesin (Mucinex). If you have any laying around, take one and see what I mean. Your piss, shit, sweat, everything smells distinctly like guaifenesin for like 12 hours after. It's kind of funny....but also kind of gross and chemically :| Definitely makes an interesting at home science experiment though! =D
