Always be safe while driving!

Shit, I know I CAN drive fine whenever I'm fucked up...but I don't. Not because I don't trust my skills, but because I don't trust anyone else's skills.

Point A to Point B, as far as I'm concerned.

That's the big problem, like the one my friend had. However, whenever somebody's else's skills are down to shit and because of that, you need to make a quick decision, do you think you will be able to do it fucked up?

quick point^^ hitting the deer might have turned out a lot worse than you just rolling and coming out fine, as you did. Deer have a tendency to really fuck your car, and day, up.

everyone at the hospital and a lot of family members said next time hit the deer. *shrugs* i always thought hitting it would be worse also.

Damn, I'm glad you made it out fine. Did your boyfriend get injured any and do know exactly how much damage the wreck did? My friend just got his car a few weeks before he wrecked it and he had a lot of money into it.

my boyfriend was just sore, he had a couple scratches on his arm too. i just got my license a month ago and the car, it was only 100$ but still it sucks.

how do you know? let me guess - because you've driven fucked up and you've never been in an accident yet?

awe-inspiring logic...

When I used DXM, I often drove while under its influence. This was stupid, and it's really the only thing about my DXM years that makes me ashamed. I never had an accident: I was lucky. I could have killed or maimed someone, someone with parents and friends, maybe a spouse and children.

Driving is one of the most dangerous things people do, even sober. The consequence of error can be death or disability. To add risk to this activity by doing it in an impaired state is just plain stupid. And if you think your driving isn't impaired by drug X, you're probably wrong. Your judgment of your own capabilities is most likely impaired as well.

"I drive just as well stoned/drunk/whatever" -- how do you know? You may feel better about your driving, you may not do anything terribly risky, but would your reaction to a child running into the road be as quick as normal? How do you know? How do you plan to find out?

"I've never had an accident driving stoned/drunk/whatever, but I have sober." So? The fact that there's an element of chance involved, and that sober driving is risky, does not mean that you are not increasing your risk when inebriated.

I think that all cars should have an eight-inch spike in the middle of the steering wheel, pointy and jagged and aimed straight at the chest of the driver. Then people would be careful.

Some of us have found out by that stuff actually happening and us discovering that our reaction is on the level.

(Not to play devil's advocate or anything.)

Or discovering that one's reaction was quick enough for that situation/those situations, and mistakenly inferring that it was just as good as normal. That's a bit like saying "I got stabbed and I survived, so I'm immune to knives!"

Assume:

Reaction time sober: 300 ms
Reaction time stoned: 350 ms

You probably won't notice the difference.

Warning given: 400 ms -> you're OK, stoned or not
Warning given: 275 ms -> you're screwed, stoned or not
Warning given: 320 ms -> Sober, you're OK. Stoned, you're screwed.

If all your emergency situations have been of the 400-ms variety, then you might not be aware that your safety margin had been reduced.

Most drivers overestimate their ability, and half the people out there on the road shouldn't be there, even sober.

driving high is not only stupid, it's criminal

since this is an harm reduction site, there should be a sticky reminding this

I agree with you 100%. People may think they are fine to drive, but whenever they make that one mistake, they will learn. I love being high more than anything, but when you drive high, you are just asking for trouble.

I just saw a thread in DB about drugs on a road trip, so i felt its time for a bump to keep it fresh in everyone's mind that driving on drugs is an unsafe practise.

if you want to take drugs and partake in activities that endanger your life - fine. but when you're driving, you're putting other road users at risk.

dont. do. it.
