Benzos Alprazolam potentiation: Alchohol or Grapefruit juice?

Is it not that the chemicals in Grapefruit, being CYP3A4 inhibitor, only lengthens the time that Alprazolam is in your system, therefore lengthening the effects?
I didn't think that the Bioavailability would be increased or anything like that.

It lengthens half-life so it makes the duration longer. By the way tagment is way better then grapefruit juice and dose the same thing.

Never tried GFJ with alprazolam but I would wager there isn't a better potentiator for alprazolam on earth than alcohol. You got to be really careful though.

whereas GFJ may potentiate alpraz (i never tried), but with booze, it doesn't potentiate, its just a combination of 2 CNS depressants, like saying does 2C-B potentiate LSD, yes the effects will be stronger, but its not really potentiation...

be carefull when mixing booze with benzos, its very dangerous, even very experienced users have ended dead or in jail cause of this combo

stay safe, enjoy;)

You say tomato(the funny way :p), I say tomato. In many circumstances I agree with those sentiments but 2 drugs couldn't have a more similar effects profile than benzo's and alcohol.

Thanks for all the replies guys. And sorry if there I made a double post, sometimes that happens on these forums as a server error as someone mentioned before. OR, I may have been zanned out and forgot I made the post and I did it twice... hahahah, just kidding!

Like I said in the first post, I like drinking alcohol while on xanax. I just feel that it sort of amplifies the effects. Yes it is very dangerous to mix the two and it can lead to really big trouble. I've had many times where xanax and alcohol have lead me into some pretty precarious situations but that was in the past when I underestimated the power of xanax and abused it. I was just wondering if the grapefruit juice would have the same effect on me as the alcohol does or not ie.) slurring, blacking out and such.

I still haven't tried grapefruit juice yet. I only take xanax a few times a month now so my tolerance is low. I was sorta just looking for a way to "get more bang for your buck" with xanax via potentiation.

oh man already

I dont know why this is so confusing to everyone. tagamet (cimetidine) and grapefruit juice INHIBIT the production of 3A4 liver enzymes. Those are the enzymes that break down the alprazolam. So with very little to break it down, it stays in your system longer. That is the only answer. And I forget what the name of the chemical in grapefruit juice is that is the inhibitor but it starts with an N i think. I read about grapefruit juice years ago to potentiate DXM which it does amazingly. BUT this is because of the conversion of DXM to DXO ratio. It causes lots more visuals.
But if you want to potentiate your xanax, how about potentiating it with more xanax. Or how about taking some opiates with it.
But having xanax last longer is a great thing anyways. Its already a powerful benzo and short to intermediate acting so why not have it last longer!! Also do not work this liver magic with all benzos. Xanax happens to have an ACTIVE metabolite which means it is psychoactive. For example if you keep taking tagamet with your clonazepam it will make it last longer, but you will also get toxic build ups after a while of the INactive metabolites namely conjugated clonazepam. Anyways, cimetidine is a very potent cyp3A4 inhibitor and you can get it generic for cheap at a dollar store so just get that.,

later.

I consume gpj regularly on a daily basis in decent amounts and it just seems to increase the drowsy zombie lazy like effects of the comedown usually into the next morning. Making waking up a pain in the ass. So i don't c it as a useful or enjoyable add on to your Xanax experience. At least IMO.

almost every time i drink alcohol with my benzos i blackout but i lack self control and tend to over indulge but when i drink about 12 fl oz. of grapefruit juice 30% actual juice it and take say 4 xanax bars it's like i took 51/2 to 6 and it lasts about 2 hours longer as well so i prefer grapefruit

Man, mrflowers, you are pulling up all the old benzo threads aren't you?
But yeah, agreed on your perspective, minus the big dose (I'm not that tolerant, yet :P).

potential

From my personal experience (benzo use for almost two decades), alcohol like wine and liquor potentiate while beer simply makes me feel it a lot less (pretty much with every drug for me, beer overpowers the buzz although it might increase respiratory depression. From the research that I have done, acute alcohol use potentiates, while chronic alcohol use decreases effect. I cant seem to ever get anything to potentiate xanax. It is such a short acting benzo its ridiculous. My dr actually has given me a choice between alprazolam, lorazepam, and clonazepam. I elected to chose clonazepam (I take .5's several times a day which oddly seems much stronger than the same dose of 1mg or 2mg.) Now this may sound odd but I get much more affect while sucking on the pills individually as apposed to swallowing or sublingual. And I mean MUCH more affect. Im guessing as its ine mouth and seeping down the throat the the mucous membranes absorb it. Another thing I have read (and I forget the terminology) is that cimetidine, grapefruit, and omeprazole are studied to only affect benzos that do not go either oxidation or n demethylization (i forget which one I apologize). For example it will work with alprazolam, diazepam, and triazolam while having no affect on say temazepam.
I have a seperate question, how much does the amount of food in the stomach affect the BA of alprazolam or clonazepam?
