When taking alprazolam, I usually like to drink alcohol with it and I have heard that grapefruit juice potentiates the effects as well. What gives the strongest potentiation? are they the same feeling or is it a different feeling?

Alcohol distorts the effect, and usually always has the same end result: blackout. Kind of a stupid combination if you ask me. Go with Tagament.

Agreed. Tagament and Grapefruit juice best option.

Tagamet is Cimitidine and can be bought at any supermarket or walmart in the OTC section. I believe it is made for heartburn but is also used off-label for the prevention of warts. 400mgs (two pills) is a good dose taken about 45 minutes before the benzo or opiate you are looking to potentiate. Same goes for grapefruit juice, although I expect you know where to find that.

IME it doesnt heighten the effects as much as it does lengthen the experience. But a longer high is alright with me :)

OH and alcohol doesn't really potentiate xanax as much as it works synergestically as a CNS depressant while distorting the true effects. Alcohol + Benzos = blackout/OD/death/coma/bad shit lol

The Great XANAX & GRAPEFRUIT Debate --->Does It Make Worse, Better, Or Indifferent

Answer 1 2 3 OR 4:?
I know we went over this time after time on this board and most of the responses from BLUELIGHT ONLY is that the majority says it potentiates it. So i went with that and i figured that it was probably right.

Now today i did some researching on the internet searching on Goooooogle. And i got answers like these...

FROM YAHOO ANSWERS:?

"It shouldnt really do anything to affect the way the xanax helps you"

"Grapefruit and xanax don't mix. The side effects could cause real problems Don't chance it."

"Eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice wil interfere with your body's proper absorption of Xanax. It will not make it work better. I'm not a healthcare professional, but I know that all prescription vials of Xanax have a warning sticker that says not to eat or drink grapefruit."

OTHER SITES, wiki asnwers yahoo answers, WEB MD, MD sites

"To your post about grapefruit juice and xanax...it IS contraindicated because it increases blood concentrations by stopping the metabolism-----meaning the levels of xanax in your blood increase because the grapefruit juice makes the body not metabolize the xanax at the normal rate...." -NOT SURE WHAT THAT MEANS

Grapefruit juice slows the body's normal breakdown of several drugs, including some benzodiazepines, allowing them to build up to potentially dangerous levels in the blood.1 A recent study indicates this effect can last for 3 days or more following the last glass of juice.2" -Does that mean that high isnt as strong but it lasts longer??? -This is from an MD website and from an MD blog/response.

A. So you can give your own personal experience on this controversial debate.
B. You can give me a good website.
C. Or you can give me you own opinion on it.

Answer 1 2 3 OR 4:?

1. It potentiates from low to high 10% to 100% with white or red G juice to give you more of a rush/high and last about the same

2. ]It potentiates the Xanax but (from what i read on websites) it stretches it out over days meaning you dont get that rush bust it lasts for alot longer than the usual 4-6 hours (feeling it and several days in you stream) They say with grapefruit juice that it (kicks in very very slow but stays in you b-stream for weeks)

3. It does the opposite it, it actually decreases it but i find that hard to believe based on more results for the opposite. Also that label on the bottle that it could be dangerous mixing it with grapefruit juice.

4. Ive also read on other websites from google and here that it does absolutely nothing].

I dont want to OD but at the same time i want to take less to preserve my xanax supply please answer questions 1,2,3,4 via (by way of) A,B,CThanks For Your Time And Response In Advance

Chemically there is no question that grapefruit juice is a CYP3A4 inhibitor, and thus it can potentiate alprazolam. There is no one side or the other, the manufacturers of xanax include it as a warning because they know the science behind it. Practically you likely need to be regularly consuming a moderate to large amount of grapefruit juice before you take the alprazolam for it to have any major effect. I tried it any number of times in the past and never felt like it had a significant effect, but one of the reasons for that could easily be how deceptive xanax or other benzos can be. If it increased the effect 33% could you really tell? IE turned 1mg into 1.33mg? Personally I'd be hard pressed to consistently tell the difference between 1mg and 2mg in a series of double blind tests.

I found that when using small quantities of diazapam (like 10-20mg) I could tell a very good difference off of just drinking one glass of GFJ directly before ingesting the benzo. But in larger doses, I really could not tell a difference.

Oh and in case you did NOT know. CAFFEINE is the anti-benzo. If you drink coffee, watch out, you are defeating the purpose of your benzo 10 fold!

i so thought this was going to be about opiates... and whether xanax and grapefruit juice make the nod better... worse... or indifferent...

Yeah it works, no doubt.

I use fresh squeezed red grapefruit juice and I'll have like 16 ounces about 20-30 mins before eating 2-8mgs of Xanax.

To the OP: Despite numerous warnings on pill bottles, it seems quite clear to me after checking all the facts that you cannot easily overdose on Xanax ALONE. Yes, thats right, the LD50 is suprisingly high for all benzodiazepines. So relax, and don't mix pills...

Merged the two threads. I have a feeling a server error caused the double post, since the original posts are identical.

y dont you just try it out then if your so curious? a few beers is the best potentiate for xanax IMO.!

Combining alcohol with benzos will most likely cause you black out and do stupid shit if you have a small tolerance to benzos. But, alcohol and benzos are great if combined appropriately for your tolerance. I've done some idiotic stuff though while under the influence of those two substances and I'm lucky to be alive. I'd avoid it if you have never tried the two together.

Is it not that the chemicals in Grapefruit, being CYP3A4 inhibitor, only lengthens the time that Alprazolam is in your system, therefore lengthening the effects?
I didn't think that the Bioavailability would be increased or anything like that.
