Hi there,

I have asthma. And i noticed that whenever i do 2-cb i feels like the asthma get worse for the duration of the trip + for a short while after i hit baseline. I also notice this effect when drinking alcohol, tho that might be due to dehydration and build up of dry "slime" in the lounges. I always make sure to keep hydrated while tripping.

I havent read any reports of this so i thought i should post it. Any one know what the reason might be? I don't get this side effect with any other particular drugs i have tried, and especially not phenetylamines and tryptamines.

Have a good day :)

I have found 2c-* compounds to increase mucous production in some, myself included. If a person is not very well hydrated when this is happening, the mucous could become quite thick and could give the impression of "slime" building up in the lungs.

This may be the cause of your problem.

I always take around 50mg diphenhydramine (benadryl) before 2c-* trips to avoid this.

I'm asthmatic too & have been known to fiddle about with 2c-xx & other Psychedelics. I often feel some chest tightness tripping & find myself using my inhaler more, but I've noticed that although my chest feels tight there's no other effects, no wheezing etc & I can still hold my breath for as long as I usually can.

I'm not sure it's an allergc reaction, but although I'm asthmatic, I'm not a doctor. Have you had this effect from other Psychedelics? I've never had 2c-b so I dunno!

I personally have bad allergies, and tend to always have mucus build up in my throat. When I take diphenhydramine in doses 50mg+, it usually completely dries up the mucus in my chest/throat and makes it a lot harder to breath. This may not be the case for everyone, but I thought I'd throw out a warning for anyone else who might get a similar effect. The shallow breathing I've experienced multiple times with diphenhydramine is rather scary, and one time I thought I was going to die from not being able to take in enough oxygen.

Yeah Diphenhydramine will dry you out...maybe try Guafensin if you have mucus build up? Guafensin is sometimes compounded with DXM for coughs and most people don't like the Guafensin but I have to say its a great exporant and it never dry's me out like Benadryl but two different purposes really...I have asthma but I've never done 2c- compounds....I only take Adderall occasionally but I know the feeling.

While I personally have never tried 2C-B, I do have asthma since birth, and have tried 2C-I 3 times and 2C-E 12 times. Coming up on 2C-I did make me feel like my breathing/chest was getting tighter, but I did not have any weezing or anything to indicate that I needed to use my albuterol inhaler or nebulizer with albuterol solution. I found that while tripping on 2C-I, 2 out of the 3 times, I did have to remind myself to focus on my breathing, and to take deeper breaths. I believe this is due to the vascoconstrictive properties of phenethylamines. On 2C-E, the first few times I did have to remind myself as well to take longer deeper breaths as well, almost like doing some mild breathing exercises while tripping. It was worse on 2C-I than 2C-E for me, but once I used phenethylamines a couple of times my body got used to "how to breathe" while on them. Even when I did use my inhaler to see if it would work in increasing bronchodilation, I noticed almost no difference in my breathing. I believe it is just the increased production of mucous that causes this to take place. It never made me freak out or anything, as I am aware that phenethylamines cause vascoconstriction, causing you to feel like you aren't breathing as normal. If you tell yourself the majority of it is inside your head, and just do a little focusing on your breathing for part of the come-up/ actual trip you will notice that you should be able to breathe fine. Good thread topic OP, didn't realize there are quite a few asthmatics that use the 2C-X's on here. Hope this information helps you, as it did with my experiences. Next time I use 2C-I or 2C-E, I plan on using some Diphenhydramine for this side effect, as well as a Diazepam or two to calm down the over-stimulation sometimes caused by 2C-I.

I have experienced the phlegm effect with 2C-B if not with one or two other 2C compounds as well. As far as I know there is little or no information about them being immunomodulators or through what mechanisms this action is exerted.

I've had a few fairly severe "psuedo-allergic" reactions to psychedelics, with by far the most severe symptoms following DMT use. I say pseudo-allergic because they've involved rapid over production of mucus in the lungs but this only happens rarely. I think it's an immune reaction to some sort of stress from the trip, but it doesn't seem to be as simple as the psychedelic being misidentified as an antigen protein or histamine or something along those lines. The following is excerpted from a report I wrote involving the reaction, which occurred after injecting synthetic DMT intramuscularly on top of numerous other mid to low dosed psychedelics:
NSFW:
I open my eyes but I can hardly see a thing. Hot, histemic tears bathe my face as I fumble manically with my headphones. *** Now I want desperately to be lying down and listening to music. I need a rhythm. I finally hit play—I don’t even know what I will be listening to—and don my tear-speckled headphones before collapsing prostrate onto my mattress. As soon as I lay back a slippery gulp of hot, watery mucus slides down my throat; the flow of mucus from here on is constant.

T+~5:15
My throat is suddenly parched, doubtless a symptom of the massive water draw this pseudo-allergic reaction is causing. ...

... My limbs are so weak. A kind of strange mixture of numbness and exhaustion seems to permeate their muscles. I am about to find this feeling is a result of neither of these descriptors, but rather that my limbs’ loyalty to me is surreptitiously being relinquished to some mysterious, imperious menace.

Suddenly—teeth gritted and fists balled—I am wrenched into the fetal position by a spastic reflex. This is accompanied by a viciously energetic surge of profound disorientation and nausea. My face is soaked in tears and spattered by constant trickles and bursts of mucus from my nose and mouth. My hair and body become soaked with sweat alarmingly fast. ....

... After approximately a minute of this convulsive, un-breathing hell I fall back to the floor and drop my head onto a slippery dollop of snot I had ejected earlier and gasp for air, my lungs slurping in fluid from my throat and reflexively sputtering out coughs in rapid-fire succession. This is could be bad. **** I know from previous experiences that, when it’s used intramuscularly, the peak of DMT only lasts 15 minutes before a noticeable decline, and I’m about due to start noticing that decline. But it doesn’t come. ...

... If I pass out now after all this exertion, continue convulsing and breath in vomit or significantly more fluid, I could really be in trouble. Worst of all this is a concern that I know from these atypical circumstances isn’t something that I can tell myself that, upon later sober reflection, I will see as just panic stricken and irrational; this isn’t just a threat to my future mental stability, but to my immediate being and mere existence. ...

The same thing happened some years later after I consumed 35 grams of mimosa hostilis on top of 40 grams of dried Peruvian Torch skin, only that was significantly worse, heh. I'm pulling the following description of it from an unfinished report I'm working on. (The report is actually about a partial seizure that evoked a powerful repeating vision the week after the mimosa reaction involving 4-AcO-DPT and a knock out dose of 1,4-butanediol, but the vision is so tied into the events of the week prior that a description had to be included [the difficulty of cohesively integrating and communicating the two most balls out intense experiences of my life in text is why it's taken me 2.5 years and counting to figure out how to get started])

NSFW:
The prior weekend I had accidently overdosed on 40 g of Peruvian Torch chips and 35 g of dehydrated and encapsulated mimosa hostilis root bark tea. After only tripping mildly from the DMT and gradually taking more and more capsules over six hours to intensify the experience, I …ate, and nearly the full dose was dumped from my gallbladder at once when I started to digest the meal (nearly the same dose had been taken two weeks earlier without eating without incident). My sinuses swelled up until I could barely see and upper respitory track filled again and again with fluid, presumably from an immune reaction. This was the second time I experienced this reaction after administering DMT (though previously administered intramuscularly with a different combination of drugs), only this episode was far more intense.

After vomiting I stripped and climbed into the bath because I had erupted in sweat. The trip was growing more powerful by the second. Ice cold water was run over my head from the bathtub faucet in an attempt to control what I perceived as the onset of hyperthermia, though it was likely just as much an attempt to keep from spinning off into madness. I’ve had my share of dysphoric episodes in over a decade of pushing my limits with over a dozen psychedelic compounds, but this was without precedent. I became convinced what I perceived as skyrocketing overheating would send me slumping into a coma if I couldn’t stay cool and conscious. Lost in a raging psychedelic delirium, and with seeming automaticity, I became enthralled by the conviction that I would if I survived I would spend the rest of my life suffering from the neurological injuries now being inflicted by this unprecedented immune reaction. The life of pain I knew I would lead as a result would be abominable, leading to unbearable self-hatred and ultimately suicide.

Perhaps, I thought, it would be best if I died. At the height of this agony came a series of repeated visions wherein I envisioned an intractable future in which I attempted to end my life instantly with a revolver and failed, instead filling my skull with a prolonged red flash, deafening ring, and a sharp stinging spray of blood and shattered teeth as I fell into the maw of ego death with jolt of terror induced adrenaline that provided just enough lucidity to recall the inception of the emotional pattern of pain that lead inexorably back to pulling the trigger.
Most of the symptoms I describe in the excerpts above seem to stem from psychological and physiological stress, but the mucus production in the lungs and nose, the rapid tearing, and the swelling of the sinuses, and possibly the overheating resemble symptoms of an allergic reaction. The mucus production quickly causes coughing and choking it's so rapid. In addition to being highly disconcerting it's obviously pretty gross, heh. Both cases involved the rapid onset of DMT, though strangely vaporizing DMT straight into my lungs has never caused the reaction. Additionally, the week prior to the ingestion of the 35 grams of mimosa I had taken the same exact dose with similar timing and staggering of the doses of both ayahuasca and P. Torch, yet that trip had come on gradually and predictably and was perfectly great. I really don't know what to make of it.
