All men play on 10 (METAL THREAD 3.0)

you really do have to be in the right mood though.

I have been really angry/frustrated lately, so I have been listening to the album nonstop. I think that's probably one of the moods you speak of. :D

Another great, recently released album.

The Red Chord - Prey for Eyes

One of my favorite bands at the moment, I really think these guys have improved dramatically with each release. TRC are also an amazing live band and a cool bunch of guys. Much respect. Pick it up.

sonof... why do you recommend so many unoriginal and bland albums? are you new to metal? that is the impression that I get...

Do you have anything useful to add to the discussion?

If not, go away. If you don't like my suggestions, don't listen to the stuff. Perhaps you could enlighten us with some "real metal." I'm sure you can recommend some god awful black metal that sounds like it was recorded in a barn.

The Red Chord, and Pig Destroyer? Yes, oh so "bland" and "unoriginal." 8)

Hey, I'm just trying to be helpful. Since you're asking my advice, I'll give it. The Red Chord, I don't really see their appeal. They sound pretty much like a monotonous Monstrosity clone, with less intricate riffing, bland structures. Pig Destroyer is slightly less terrible, though to call them original would be a joke. Yeah, their first album was decent, Terrifyer wasn't too terrible, but the new album isn't anything. It sounds like I've heard it somewhere... oh that's right, every single Grind album in the last 10 years. If over-produced, stale deathgrind is your dish, go with these two bands.

I don't know any good recent barn recorded black metal albums (though there's probably a few good ones out there), there aren't many good releases these days. However I will recommend this one band Averse Sefira, they are a black metal band who actually take more influences from death metal than anything. They play with more speed, brutality, and technicality than any lame midwest deathgrind clone. You can hear a song of theirs here: http://www.aversesefira.com/plagabraha.mp3

i think someone's been drinking the kool-aid over at anus.com.

tetragrammical astygmata was a siiiiiiiiiiick album, i love that disc. i can't remember much about the rest of their stuff except that it sounded boring and pretentiously inaccessible.

I don't think you have ever listened to The Red Chord before. Bland structures? Non-intricate riffing? I would say the exact opposite about the band.

I'm not even a big grind guy, but both of these bands are at the top of the heap in the genre.

You sound like one of those jaded guys that doesn't like anything that has even the slightest bit of commercial appeal, or doesn't like any bands that more than 6 people have heard of. I know the type. All they do is hate everything. I was like that when I was about 18. I got over it.

And I have been into metal for 10 years to answer your previous question. If that makes me "new to metal" then so be it.

Sorry man, we must be from different worlds. That is some average, monotonous black metal with some death influence. Totally forgettable.

Kalmah is a great metal band that is relatively unknown in the music scene. Their stuff is fast as hell, melodic as hell....and, well.....just awesome as hell.

this shit sounds terrible, and it sounds like some jackass 14 year old with a laptop an M-box and some pro-tools recorded it.

get real, son. just because it's noisy and chaotic doesn't mean it's brutal or technical.

I mean, shit, do you even play anything?

According to some of the board's contributers, my recent recommendations haven't been up to snuff, but for those that still trust my judgment (maybe even just a little bit), I suggest grabbing this one:

;)

Symphony X - Paradise Lost

Prog metal isn't even really my thing, but once in a while something will come along that will just force me to pay attention. This is such an album. I have always been into these guys, at least to some degree, and this album reminded me what I like about them.

Anyone listen to Norther? Been a long time fan, but as of lately I've been listening to them constantly lately
