The problem lies not just in the laws, but the indoctrinated inhabitants. I know so many people that are scared of change, and scared of drugs. They are called Conservatives (i dont neccesarily mean this politically, im not just talking about "republicans"/neocons). I think the US is built on the notion that most of the people who live here are morons, with the minority wanting progress, and the majority just stuck in their daydreams of whip-cracking and slave-raping. This is a country that runs on majority, after all, who is just about to finish his second fucking term as commander-in-chief?
The problem is, you have all these fox-induced xenophobics running around, and they are the majority, even though casual polls indicate most people are for legalization of marijuana, im not so sure about recreational use.
However, the truth is, the cops really have been cracking down just a bit less on kids who have a dimebag in their pocket.
EDIT: I just cant get over how stupid you have to be to keep drugs and especially POT illegal after going over all the pros and cons. How was the mafia fueled? Prohibition. History repeats. And I hope it goes full circle once again. But really, we'd be getting rid of the "scum" that people so often claim they want to get rid of, profitting from drugs. However, they dont consider deli owners part of this category. Alcohol and nicotine, the most dangerous drugs on the planet, hello? But nvm that, you always hear shit from the media like "oh drugs devastated this family because the son went to prison and is getting it doggystyle, its so sad". Well, who put that kid in jail? The govt did. Not the dealer. And yes, this way you do not have to deal with the "black market" at all. But no, if we legalize it, lots of kids are gonna start smoking pot. And most of of all we care about the children. Well the children are already smoking, and most of them have connects up the block, and can get weed a hell of a lot easier than beer. Dealers dont ask for ID. And has this country lost its' mind, the money earned from this would certainly cover the debt, and they could tax the shit out of pot if they wanted to, and sales would prolly increase. Not to mention this is a country that will pimp anything for money. But we have those damn conservative values with undertones of racism, and its like we're back to square 1, cuz you guys all know that cannabis was scheduled because of xenophobia, and i guess that hasn't changed.
So... what is really holding us back?
