Alice in Chains - anyone obsessed like myself?

I am too obsessed I feel; I will listen to them all day and then read old articles of Layne and the band to myself. I've just watched A LOT OF AIC shows over the year on YouTube and whatnot. guys voice just blows my mind; also such a coincidence so many of Jerrys songs ended up having/explaining Laynes life leading to his death; meanwhile, Jerry had NO THOUGHT OF THAT AT ALL! insane how that worked.

dirt is where most of the greatest hits are, so even sticking w/ that is good. although, you are missing out on some earlier and also later JAMS in AIC life.

def. was more Metal. dirt was a bit lower and more depressing, life, drugs, thought, death, etc. just worked me for me a long time reminding me of my life and how I am living all.

Absolutely love the band. Saw the original line-up-minus-Layne shortly after his OD live at a festival. Still kicked ass. For me AiC was king of the Grunge thing, transcended it with those very few other bands. And while all their music is worthy their shining star is so obviously Unplugged.

My latest; few more sessions and I will be done. no more needles in back, veins or anywhere.

They are my favorite grunge band. If Mother Love Bone had made more than 1 album I like to think they might be, at least that 1 album is pretty bad ass. Would be interesting if they hadn't lost A Wood, grunge scene would have developed differently, probably never would've been a Pearl Jam. I feel people always think about what would have been if Cobain didn't leave the world early, but I don't think it would have made anywhere near as much a difference as Wood's death, considering it happened just when grunge was gaining steam. I mean 1 guys death resulted in the creation of Pearl Jam the other in the Foo Fighters, no argument there as to which band is more influential.

I saw AIC without Staley, too, never with him unfortunately. They opened for Velvet Revolver (who's set, btw, was mainly salvaged by playing like 2 or 3 GnR songs, I recall 1 was Mr. Brownstone but don't remember the others). AIC blew them out of the water, though. Obv would have been better w/ Layne, but still was pretty damn good.

I can dig them. Wouldn't say I was obsessed with them, though. I was obsessed with nirvana around the time I found out about AiC.

LAYNE WAS AIC - Jerry did the writing, for most of the albums, but Layne started to write later in his career; did all the writing for Mad Seasons album which was great as well for his style. but man, his early vocal range was like NO OTHER! that dude could hit cords like you wouldnt believe (gotta be in the biz to know this). guy had it all and then some. the sound was so real, and so in-depth that you could legit feel it in your body as he belted out those words.

I watch the same video, daily, and still shake from the sound of that voice. I watch the unplugged and I feel high on dope myself just watching him shiver up there and be nodding as he speaks and the words come out brilliantly.

I know what you mean, layne gives me goosebumps.
I play guitar, and I have an ear for tuning.. I know a good singer when I hear one, and layne was a damn good singer.

Staley & Cobain NEVER fails to give me goosebumps. Especially when they scream and pour out such drastic emotion. *Shivers*
It's weird how you can hear the pain in their voices. Both of them. It's quite similar too. If you have a good ear and can hear it for what it actually is, you'll know what I mean.

This is a perfect example of that ^

Start at 4:30

That voice at 4:41 onward is fuckin' amazing. Raw-fuckin'-emotion. Gives me the bumps every goddamn time.

Layne surely annihilated it on his unplugged set and especially in Mad Season, one of my all time favorite albums. I also wonder what grunge would've been like if Wood hadn't died, but like RT said, there would be amazing works missing like Temple of the Dog and such.

I am a Kurt fan but never listened/loved them like I did Layne/AIC. plus, I am not a fan of the way Kurt took his life. wife/kids, etc. I know the battle isnt easy but I dont like that. not saying Layne was much better because he left his family behind as well but he was locked away for years by himself shooting, slowly killing himself and people expecting that outcome to eventually come.

Many times I've jammed to Man in the Box when I was really drunk. I think they are a great band though. Some of my favorite songs besides mitb are Rooster, Would, Down in a Hole, and Nutshell.

wow, forgot all about this post. it's too bad I am no longer on those subs and back on the bad.. well, pretty bad.. but not that bad, right?

good to see this post again. AIC still the best; Layne the best.. Mad Season.. the best! alot of the music goes w/ addiction well and the general thoughts of an addict.
