Alcohol

I've abused alcohol loads and don't worry it, yet when i take other drugs i feel guilty and its going to mess me up, less than alcohol will

The body considers alcohol a poison. Alcohol damages the liver, brain and eventually parts of the entire digestive tract.

Benzodiazepines do not damage any organs. The only damage benzos may cause (not proven) is related to certain parts of the brain and that's only with long term users.

You people really think that alcohol is really safe simply because it's legal? Have you seen what happens when an alcoholic goes into withdrawal? Possible death from seizures.

I have drank heavily for 30/40 years and just recently annual blood work shows liver being stressed. If I took benzos for that amount of time I believe I would have been pushing daisies .
 
And my uncle has been taking a high dose of methadone (a controlled Rx med) for 36 years now and blood tests show none of his organs are damaged, nor is his noodle fried.

I'm not saying alcohol is a terrible thing to ingest. I simply don't agree with the 2nd poster's comment and medical literature agrees from what I've been reading. The first benzo was available in 1960 and since then studies have not conclusively been able to prove that it causes brain damage long term. Also studies have been able to prove long term that benzos do not cause the type of organ damage that alcohol does.
 
I consider alcohol to be one of the worst things you can put in your body. If I'm not mistaken alcohol and benzodiazepines have very similar mechanisms of action in the brain. The only difference is that alcohol is poison.
 
Yep. Alcohol is much more dangerous than any similar-acting Rx.

Besides...this is what alcohol does for me and has never done anything else: ZZzzzZZZZzzzzZZZzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZ
 
i've heard benzo's are also toxic to the liver...and withdrawl is similar but more dangerous than alc.
 
Alcohol is one of the worst drugs you can take. You dont hear too often of someone driving down the street & killing a family of 5 while smoking weed. It may happen but not like alcohol. Altho I dont smoke weed, I was making a comparison.
 
Seeing how alcohol remains the only thing that has put me in the hospital, I'd have to say that yes - alcohol is a powerful drug, and people don't respect it's ability to do seriously damage nearly as much as they should. You need to be careful with that shit.
 
Alcohol is a travesty of a drug. It has such a broad range of effects.

Alcohol effects literally all major neurotransmitters except acetylcholine.
Alcohol causes multiple organ failure.
Alcohol in itself is a neurotoxin.
Alcohol metabolizes into a stronger toxin.

Many benzos are metabolized or broken down by the liver and certain benzos may slow down or speed up certain processes in the liver but that's not liver damage. I haven't been able to find any medical literature that suggests liver damage from benzo use (short term or long). If you can find anything please link it as like to read up on these sort of things.

Okay, one thing about mixing benzos and alcohol that it doesn't sound like you're aware of...it just causes you to black out. You're not going to remember anything, yet you can still be functional enough to walk (stumble) around and do things. This can make for a really dangerous situation so it's best to have EITHER the benzos OR the alcohol, and not mix the two.

To answer your original question....fuck man, how long is a piece of string? It's all relative to how much you take of each drug, how long you've been using/abusing them, whether you mix it with anything else, etc.

But if you need a definitive answer, I believe that alcohol is just as dangerous as (if not more dangerous than) a lot of other drugs, including benzos, because of its abuse potential, addictive qualities, damage to the liver, stomach, brain, etc.

Alcohol withdrawal is very similar to benzo withdrawal and can actually be more dangerous than benzo w/d. Again, it all depends on how much you've been drinking and for how many months/years. You can have seizures and die from brain damage from severe alcohol withdrawals, just the same as with severe benzo w/d's.
 
Alcohol is highly enjoyable & highly damaging, it just takes longer to kill you than most other highly damaging drugs. Once you are drinking every day & don't get hangovers anymore, you've got a problem. Like me...

Only thing worse (again over a relatively long time) is tobacco.

8)Isn't it strange that these two highly damaging drugs are legal...NOT!

The reasons are quite simple...

1. Tax. There are about 70 million people in the UK, & probably about 20 million of them smoke. A pack of 20 cigs costs around £6, of which about £4 is tax. Lets say each smoker buys a 20 pack per day, Thats about 80 million quid going into the goverment coffers PER DAY! And those figures are conservative estimates....

Booze....I'm not sure of the tax figures on that, but it will be a lot.

And reason 2, neither of these drugs increase awareness in the user, so no threat of them enlightening anyone to the fuck-up that our 'leaders' have/are creating...
