Harm Reduction Alcohol withdrawals?

Tapering slowly without medication (or with) is definitly the best way to go. Limit the drinks.... or dilute the vodka with some cranberry or something so you can be somewhat psychologically satisfied and still get a small buzz.... ofcourse dont drink as much.
 
So its about day 4. ive been taking roughly 1.5-2mgs of xanax a day, unfortunately i had a pint yesterday, but im feeling ok today, no shakes yet, and i havent taken any benzo's.
 
I'm experiencing a similar misfortune at present, albeit less-pronounced than yours(round about 5-10 units per day, depending for about 2 months. 4 units per day for 6 months prior to that).

I'd say hold off for as long as you can before your next drink.

How long have you been taking the xanax for? I'd say cut your current usage IN HALF at this point.

The fact that you've made it this far and are comfortable means it's working itself out (or rather YOU are working IT out).

The problem of course will be boredom and inactivity at this point, so you may want to either busy yourself with something manageable and time-consuming, physical activity or excerpter, reading, anything to keep your mind off the drudgery of sobriety.

Do you enjoy cannabis? This would be recommendation if you absolutely NEED a substance to pass the time.

When quitting, I personally find that 1 bowl of good cannabis eliminates my need for alcohol 75%.

One bowl, one shot or beer = 4 shots or 4 beers for time consumption.

Also eat heartily and healthily, if you can muster the strength to. This is one of the main problems I've faced since being anxious leaves me with little to know appetite. Stay hydrated as well. Ice water and sports drinks help me immensely.

Try melatonin for sleep.

my current situation is like the exact opposite of yours lol. ive been smoking weed daily for over a year and 4 months or so, but i took a month off for a T break during that time period in the middle of it. whenever i go off weed i can't sleep for shit for a good week or so. i tapered down with my weed for a few days before i fully quit while combining it with alcohol to make it seem not as significant of a change.

It's been about 4 or 5 days since i last smoked and i've been drinking every night before bed so that i can try and get some rest. only problem is i need at least 10 shots in order to sleep. 10 shots only gives me a mild buzz so its not like im getting drunk every night. how much extra time there is is amazing, but it's still hard for me to actually utilize this extra time at this point since i'm not used to being sober in the evenings, and it gets kind of boring. the psychological addiction is pretty strong tho, and one of the nights i couldn't take it anymore and had to drink quite a bit.

last night i tried to taper my alcohol down and only drank a 32 oz beer (8.2% alc/vol tho), and was able to sleep for 2 hours until i woke up and layed awake for 2 hours.. finally after giving up i just poured myself 5 shots and was finally able to get back to sleep. i'll try tapering down again on saturday or sunday hopefully. bad thing is i got some intense summer classes i'm taking that start early in the morning while all of this is going on, so that's why i need the alcohol in order to try and get to bed on time.

hopefully i don't trade in one addiction for another.
 
You're better off substituting with less potent pot, I'd say.

10 shots a night wreaks havoc on the CNS.

Even something like baclofen would suit you better, functionally and physiologically that is.

could you elaborate more? and honestly i dont even know where i would be able to get mids. haven't seen mids in 2 years. everyone i know has dank pot.

and does it still wreck havoc on the CNS if i have a high tolerance? (for example, i could easily do over 22 shots in a good night to get where i need to be, and i dont drink on a regular basis)
