I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong forum or has been discussed before (I tried searching, couldn't think of good terms).

My understanding is that alcohol, among its effects, hits the Gaba receptors à la benzos, and the nmda receptors à la dissociatives.

I feel both of these things the times I've been drunk, but for me it is a totally unpleasant, overwhelming experience. I am wondering, then, in relative layman's terms how such a theoretically great combination can be so subjectively *dirty*.8(

i don't about the nmda thing, but i have an anxiety disorders *i should* have benzos for and i drink because of the gaba thing.

there are obvs so many other factors involved that make it less clean. alcohol is like coke, in that your brain naturally wants more once it has some. it dehydrates you.

it hits you differently. there's definitely a mania and disorientation that i don't get with benzos.

of course this depends on the amount taken of each, but in my experience a small amount of benzos is still calming, while a small amount of alcohol is still a "buzz" i don't associate with benzos. of course benzos become disorienting when too much is taken, but it's in a much more sedated way for me. i just want to shut down and go to sleep, as opposed to a lot of the crazy shit i have done when black out drunk.
