Alcohol dependency - novel treatments?

This alcoholic (1.5 l vodka for a year) was certainly seeking oblivion. People take alcohol for a multitude of reasons. I've always wondered why people consider set & setting for other drugs but just drink.

-I'm bored, I'll drink.
-I'm sad I'll drink.
-I'm happy, I'll drink.
-I'm lonely, I'll drink.
-I'm stressed, I'll drink.

The list is endless.

Disulfiram is a) Illogical b)Highly Teratogenic and c)Puts dangerous strain on your body. I've tried the whole Antabuse thing...only made me dizzy and agitated and certainly didn't help me learn how to be more responsible, it just put me in an emotional straight jacket.

^^^Yeah, it's fucking poison. Clomethiazole dried me out for sure!

Funnily enough I'm more a proponent of psychotherapy than psychedelics but I know that alcoholics as a patient group are particularly resistant to introspection. With psychedelics, there is an increased sensitivity to that which the alcoholic avoids prcisely through drinking.

Rob, I'd be very pleased if you posted some links to research that supports your claims that alcoholics are "resistant to introspection".

You're looking for a magic bullet, and there isn't one.

CAN YOU GET THIS IN AUSTRALIA? whats the deal is it import restrictions? hmmm i want it help with my drinking and excessive drinking

GHB sounds good but will it get all the Alcohol WD away ?

Do both act on differents GABA site ?

How safe it is to substitute Alcohol for someone with heavy physical addiction to GHB itself ?

But yeah Disulfiram look like shit, and Clomethiazole sounds a good idea and promising.

This is undoubtedly no help. But facing a judge and potentially fifteen years in jail sobered me up. I'm terrified to drink these days. Of all substances it's my kryptonite.

As for being cured. I believe, once your an alchoholic, your always one, except you don't drink.

I think everyone has to find their own path to quitting booze. I know more than one individual, whose drinking got them in the slammer. And when released they go straight back to the hooch. Guess some people just can't take a hint!
