Alcohol and topamax

I'm starting topamax treatment for bipolar disorder - I do not like modern antipsychotics or lithium because I really can't control my eating




I read that alcohol may increase the risk of a seizure on topamax? (Yes I know i probably shouldn't drink at all, but I do about twice a month) Surely that message is intended for people who are taking it for epilepsy right?

It's intended for everyone but most likely you won't suffer a seizure if you have a few drinks like twice a month (as you said). Its directed toward people trying to get drunk.

Alcohol increases the risk of you having a seizure if you suffer from epilepsy no matter which med or meds you take for it. Topamax is sometimes used in the treatment of alcoholism so the mix is not that dangerous as far as i know.

My ex girlfriend took topamax and drank regularly. She never mentioned any major problems from what I remember. Compared to all the other drugs we were doing it was probably the least of her worries, lol.
