A moment of silence for a fallen hero and perhaps the patron saint of psychedelia. At least at age 102, we can't say that he didn't live a full life. Repugnant is a society that would prosecute use of Hofmann's gift to all mankind to a fuller extent than most violent crimes. I can only hope things improve posthumously for his wonderful creation. It is a remarkable chemical, full of tremendous promise. For example, it is no coincidence that most of the individuals who helped in first launching the modern age of computers, software and networking protocols had taken LSD. Unfortunately, it was introduced before society was ready for it, before we had any insight into the neuropharmacology and effects of psychedelics: people dove into the fucking deep end without even knowing how to swim. Ironically, it was the development of LSD--a completely synthetic, engineered compound--that catalyzed the modern investigations of the psychedelics that have been used by mankind for millennia (like psilocin, mescaline and DMT) and a re-emergence of this ancient knowledge into society.
I always wanted to meet him and thank him for LSD, ask him about his first trip, his synthetic methods, etc... So, I'll say it here just for the sake of saying it: thanks man, you let me know what it is like to feel human, to feel grateful for being alive, to overcome and to evolve. Peace.
Oh yeah, also, thanks for Hydergine--the promise of the ergoloids, psychedelic or not, to advance human cognition is apparent here, as well.
