My girlfriend's dog got prescribed these 4mg alazopram pills. I noticed the "-pram" suffix and now I have to ask the question. Anyone have any experience with this benzo?

if you mean alprazolam(xanax) the highest dose of it in a single pill is 2mg and it is a benzodiazepine and is an anti anxiety med that's as far as im going into detail..
do some research on it, we aren't here to do all the work for you..
try google, drugs.com, rxlist.com wiki etc..

BUT it is not good for dogs to take a large amount as they could overdose, but they do prescribe certain benzos to dogs to calm them during long travel or before surgery.

Double check the drugs name unless there are 4mg extended release xanax i don't think the pill you're talking about exists, or i might have assumed the wrong drug with your misspelling.

They could be a fraction of 1mg if they are for a dog (or even if for a human, I'm not sure if you're serious), something like 0.4mg is about what a large dog (or a human) would need. I don't know specifically of alprazolam formulations for a dog but they do have similar equivalent formulations of other benzodiazepines for small animals.

The highest that they come in for humans is 3mg and that is the XR, the instant release only go up to 2mg.

^FWIW, they did apparently make alprazolam in 0.4mg and 0.8mg formulations at one point...

"Generic versions of alprazolam IR tablets were introduced in 1993 and may have additional dosage strengths (e.g., 0.4 mg and 0.8 mg tablets)."

They also still make the 0.4mg pills in some countries... 0.4mg Azolac from Korea:

(I didn't consider this a pill ID, remove if necessary)

this must be from a non US country. the highest dosage in the us is 3mg(XR). the dog explantaion makes the most sense, frankly, but Ill bet the author is just confused/wrong. I personally take 3 1mg tablets thrice a day and i dont feel a thing. yes, benzos are quite addictive but if youre properly supervised or moniterred by a qualified physician, theres practically no worry.

That's crazy guess dogs need anxiety help too...lol...tho I think the dog is just using you for the script :)

hmm interesting, i've never heard of xanax for dogs....i learn something new everyday!

Here's my advice - DON'T STEAL NECESSARY MEDICATIONS FROM HUMANS OR ANIMALS.

That aside, this doesn't at all belong here.
