So I was just wondering, hypothetically of course, if someone were to be travelling somewhere by plane and wanted to bring, say, a bag of weed with them to wherever they were going, what would be the best way to do so, given the tightened security and bag checks, etc. post 9/11??
Or is it not worth it. My friend wants to know.

Weeds not worth anything.
If he really can't go without weed, yeh sure go for it.
I'd imagine carrying it some where around your groin area would be the best place.

youre going to get busted and its going to be a federal crime, since airports are federal property, hey! maybe if you get caught overseas it will be a international crime! those are fun to deal with!

In an era where they want to look for bombs in our shoes and check to see if are anuses are in fact being used for the expulsion of feces and not to hide a MAC-10, do you really think bringing weed on a plane is a good idea?
Weed is the most visible drug EVER (tank of Nitrous Oxide nonwithstanding) everybody knows what it smells and looks like, and it takes up a lot of space. Plus, god forbid you should bring any smoking utensils. I'd like to see you spending half an hour talking to the security guards GED asses, trying to convince them you're not an international drug smuggler because you have a pipe in your bag.
I'm not saying "don't smuggle drugs". Drug smuggling is k-rad, and if it wasn't for that, we'd have to be content with meth and not exotic imports like heroin and coke. People do a lot of creative things when they smuggle drugs, but you're not one of them. Sorry!

Stick it under your nutsack and walk thru.
Not flaming meth bunny but it doesnt take a professional smuggler to fly with a bag of weed. If you're flying domestic and you do happen to have canine check you out, it;ll be screening for explosives not drugs. Thats one good thing that came outta the recent tragedy. Law enforcement is finally targetting real criminals.

No, just someone who doesn't care about their personal freedom. Pills I can understand, but with weed it just boils down to you being lazy.
While many other illegal drugs will take a little bit of work to purchase, you can score weed within three hours hanging around most city bus stations.
If I'm going to commit a federal felony, it's not going to be in an airport with tons of heavily armed, dimwitted security. Have fun using the "real criminals" line on cops, because that's a surefire way to get arrested. I'm assuming bomb-sniffing dogs can sniff for drugs, too. At least weed, being that everyone and their mother knows what that looks like.

Actually, by trying to score weed of some folks at a bus station you are taking FAR more risk and having to go through far more hassle. (By the way, have you ever been to a Greyhound Bus Station? There are some FUCKED up people riding busses. I'll risk the fucking felony.)
Effigy was dead on with his post, take his advice...
I've seen quite a few people traveling post 9/11 that have taken contraband with them on domestic flights with no problem. (Remember, this really applies only to domestic flights, if you fly internationally you go through customs, and you have a lot more chance of getting caught).
Also, NO the vast majority of the time bomb sniffing dogs are NOT trained to detect drugs as well, there is a reason for this (I mentioned it the can dogs smell LSD thread in Psych):
When dogs are trained to detect undesirable items, they are trained to typically respond to stimulus in 2 manners: Active or Passive.
When dogs are trained to detect drugs, they are trained respond actively. That means they attack the item in question in order to find locate the drugs. (Watch the show COPS) When dogs are passivley trained, they are trained to singal that an item is in question but NOT to approach or come into contact with the item. This is how bomb-sniffing dogs are trained.
Obviously, when sniffing for bombs you don't want the dog to go batshit nuts over a package and try to rip into it, only to possibly set of the explosive device.
Now, it's possible to train a dog to passivley detect for drugs, and then he can be trained for explosives as well, but these are pretty rare to actually come in contact with.

CMB wrapped it up .. you also can't really do anything to disguise it - you can put pills in bottles, or easily hide other things such as powders as they take up such a small area... but weed - you just can't do anything with it, also, it is so easily detected... for real, can't you make it without the shit long enough to get through your trip? An alternative idea would be to mail the shit overnight on the day you leave, then pick it up at your hotel (address to the name you're checked in as, even if it's your real name..)

CMB: I want suggesting using the line "go areest some real criminals" if something happened. I simply meat that post 9/11 law enforcement at airports/customs is finally comcentrating more on terror groups instead of drug smugglers. If you see a dog in an airport today you can bet it is there to look for explosives. Obviously there will be a few exceptions but the vast majority of canines ar ethere for a specific purpose and that's to find bombs. Brainrape is correct. Dogs are actually quite specialized. A bomb sniffing dog wont be trained to alert on drugs. A corpse sniffing dog wont be trained to alert living humans. and so on..
