Air Duster - New Experience - Inhalants are Dangerous. Do not use this chemical.

^That's exactly why I made this thread, I wanted to show what the duster high is like so people would lose whatever curiosity they had about it and realize that it's just not worth it. Seriously people, if you want to inhale any kind of gas, just use N20(in moderation).

this is a supposed scientific website but no one here has stated how scientifically they can condone use of duster and say nitrous is "ok" in "moderate" amounts.
wheres is this "logic" coming from?

as far as I know inhaling hydrocarbons is no more harmful than inhaling nitrous. i understand why inhaling volatile substances like gasoline is harmful, but whats up with the attitude of nitrous somehow being all safe.
the only reason you can say that is because lots of people use it and have used it in the past. not a very "sound" reason for thousands of people to be counting on.

hydrocarbon inhalation sounds like as good as any method of oxygen deprivation.
id like to see some real reasons as to why nitrous is so much safer.

on another note, I would also like to see if anyone can come up with reasons why the two substances seem to have slightly different effects, though i doubt anyone on BL will be able to say, as there is literally almost no information on this subject.
it would be very interesting however.
 
^actually you make a great point.

The thing that I base my logical sources from is that N20 can be very safely used and C02 isn't supposed to be used at all. I thought that was the main thing huffers got from dusting...C02
 
And I guess the part where people that huff say they get really sick and feel like they fucked up their bodies afterwards, but I usually don't hear that with food or better yet medical grape nang.

well im not sure you can get high off of CO2 AT ALL, nor do i think that air duster contains CO2

...hmmmmmm but though there may be some sort of inhalant that does do that, i dont really have any idea but it might be interesting to find out.
what gets you high in duster is the hydrocarbons, same thing with air conditioner raiding for "freon" ..freon wont get you high (i dont think) but the hydrocarbons in the unit are what will.

There are different types of hydrocarbons and NO2 probably mimics their action. I believe that they have slightly different effects depending on their shape and size.
Anything that contains ingredients other than the active ones (hydrocarbons/NO2/difluoroethane) obviously could be dangerous.

oh and i might be wrong, they're called fluorocarbons not hydrocarbons.

personally, dust-off never gave me any side-effects worse than nitrous, though nitrous all around is much "cleaner" headier high. i've never tripped as hard as i did when i hit that can though, like nitrous x5
there is also NASTY bitterant chemicals in all duster products so that may also contribute to the bad side-effects.
beyond that i can only guess as to why they would produce different effects, possibly difluoroethane (common ingredient for duster) because of its different chemical shape is just producing a worse high.
 
Erm.... I've used duster before on maybe 2 or 3 occasions. I don't condone it's usage at all, but I will try to relate my experience and the (nasty) after effects.

I was hanging out with 3 other people, 2 of whom I did not know very well and it was their idea to get the duster, my buddy J and I just sort of went along with it. So my friend J was driving and had the sense not to touch the stuff until we parked somewhere, the 2 other people were in the back passing the can back and forth and laughing hysterically. When they passed the can I took it and grinned, excited to try something new.

I put the nozzle in my mouth, squeezed the trigger and took in a huge lung full. The stuff sort of burns your lungs and/or just feels weird, that was the first sensation that I noticed. Then the effects hit very suddenly and intensely. I think I said "whoahh" (in a super deep devil sounding voice) and then started to laugh. Suddenly I was looking out at the world through tunnel vision, feeling my body getting heavy and experiencing auditory hallucinations, similar to nitrous in that effect. Next thing I know we are like a half mile down the road and I was apparently just drooling on myself and experiencing mild hallucinations for the past minute.

I used it several more times that day and found it to be VERY disassociating. I would basically enter a state of sensory deprivation and think that I was out and about doing something with a completely different group of people (driving around in a car, standing around talking, etc.). The effects were interesting to someone who finds disassociative states interesting (I know I do!) but probably a lot less magical than true disassociation.

When it was all over with, I went home feeling somewhat hung over. Then I noticed a strong tingling sensation that ran through my limbs and into all of my extremeties. This tingling was very profound for the first hour or two, and then slowly faded. I think that tingling sensation was all I needed to suspect that the stuff was probably very bad for you. I repeated the experience a few more times, but eventually lost interest in it feeling that it had a lot of potential health risks.

If I remember right, nitrous is safer than other inhalents because it is relatively unreactive in your body. Hydrocarbons fuck up your organs and hearing.

Carbon Dioxide can get you 'high' - mixed with oxygen (so you don't die) it was called carbogen. Pretty sure Huxley wrote about it in Doors of Perception.

A few things:
air duster contains fluorocarbons, not hydrocarbons.(used because they are less flammable)

duster is apparantly known to cause paraylsis however this may be due to oxygen deprivation and not the fluoro/hydrocarbons themselves, I didn't really look deep enough to find anything that specified.

Freon is the DuPont trade name for a combination of various hydro/flurocarbons

As for the safety of nitrous vs. hydro/flurocarbons, I am assuming nitrous is safer based on my experiences and the experiences of others. I have never heard of anyone having such severe consequences from short term use of nitrous as with hydro/fluorocarbons. If I have the time later, I'll look into it more.

id did it earlier repetitively i heard the phone ring so i stood up, i made it 10ft an blacked out bustng my head on a hard wood floor, my dad was here he found me with no pulse and not breathing he knew cpr so he started an later i came out of it but man my head fuckin hurts but i dont think ill fuck with this shit again ill stick to my nitrous

Yeah, I read about this and read all the trip reports seems like ether but, wiith a definite chance of visuals. I was super insanely interested in trying this to. Even got a half--baked idea to make it myself with alka seltzer just never knew how to get the oxygen mixed in...
 
Information must be free, and people must be free to express themselves, even if it's an inhalant trip report. As long as we have moderators and regular bluelighters to condemn the usage of inhalants, even if the original post is some kind of glorification, the net result will be a positive one.

I think it's great that the moderator edited the post with a red disclaimer; it's similar to what Erowid does. I don't think these inhalant trip reports are in any way detrimental; in fact, I believe them to be essential to harm reduction. If we have a ban on discussing inhalants, then we're no better than those "Just Say No!" DARE people. The fact that we continue to discuss how bad they are in threads like this can only be a positive thing.
 
what the hell is up with young teens getting high everyway possible?? what happened to REAL drugs, such as pot, coke, x, ectt? i understand taking DXM pills or CCC seeing as dxm is actually a drug, but when used in larger amounts get you high. but computer duster? id rather have my kids doing coke then computre duster. what the hell is wrong with people..???
 
I agree that even if the activity is dangerous, a trip report can be very helpful, so long as use of the drug isn't condoned. Erowid puts the same warning on reports involving CCC, since it's pretty dangerous and you can just as easily get the same DXM high from other sources. My stupid teenage self tried air duster once...absolutely horrific. It makes you feel like you fried out your brain, and its terrifyingly fiend-ish. Inhalants are some of the most stupidly dangerous highs to chase - stay the fuck away from that shit.

I wasn't a fan of ether...I tried it mainly because I was curious after Fear and Loathing, and because I had very easy access to it since we frequently used it as a solvent in my chem lab. The effects don't last very long, and it just made me feel dizzy and wobbly, with my vision blurred out a bit. And then the smell of it just wouldn't go away. IMO, there's a reason why not that many people bother to use this stuff recreationally...
 
I tried computer duster about 4 times. I was also taking prescribed medicines like Strattera and Geodone. Computer duster made me completely fucking light headed, like I was going to pass out. Nothing fun about it, but being the junkie that I was, I did it whenever it was near. I even did it in my computer class at college with all my classmates standing around and my teacher giving a lecture, and somehow even though it was making that spraying sound, they didn't notice..
 
I was thinking about making a similar report about my experiences. I tried it for the same reason, I had been doing 100's of whippits on the weekends, my friend mentioned duster, and I was broke - so I bought a couple cans to give it a try. Horrible decision. I'm pretty sure ive done some sort of permanent damage to myself, I felt it even after the first time, and STILL did it again. Its been 3 weeks and I still dont feel normal. Im done with it for good now, but that shit makes you fiend like crazy. Its a sad and disgusting thing.
 
Gah, I did this while rolling balls on MDMA....such a bad fucking idea... :(

Why did I have to trust my friend who told me "It's NOS! It's the exact same thing!". ARGHHH Dammit I just got nauseous... :X
