Air bubbles in a syringe

I read in a post tonight the following: "You can't kill yourself with air bubbles, takes like 3 syringes full of air to even possibly do anything at all...".

Is this true? When I was in jr. high mu father told me about watching a friend shoot up (in the mid 70s). His eyes bugged out a bit got rigid, then limp and died. My old man said that the guy must have had some air in his syringe. This made him stay away from the needle after that and succeeded in making me absolutely paranoid about air bubblrd.

Now, my father's words don't carry much weight to me but was wondering if this were possible or if TR was right. Thanks.

Yeah its true im not sure if it takes 3 syringes but you dont have to worry too much about air in the needle man.

That guy might've died from something else. Dad could've been trying to scare you from drugs. Who knows. I find that family and parents will always lie about drug use and any criminal stuff they did in their life.

If you want, I can find a source for you. But yes, it takes about 3-5cc's of air, which is about 3-5 ml of air, which is about 3-15 syringes depending on how big they are. In other words, a few, or even a lot, of bubbles in your syringe, won't hurt you.

I mean just think about, it's common sense - when you place the syringe against your skin, some air is going to get trapped in the hole and inevitably be injected. The only way to not have any air get in would involve sucking up the solution in a vacuum-tight environment and be squirting the solution out as you press it against your skin and inject.

Lol...and imagine the hilarity that could ensue as someone reads this and tries it =D

If people would die from a few bubbles in a needle every junkie in the world would be dead. A couple won't do anything. Don't be shooting up 3cc of air of course...

that's pretty close to a burroughs quote.

Its an air embolism, and the amounts present in a normal normal shot of dope are absolutely nothing to worry about. Even if you were retarded and IVed 1cc of air, you would survive. It takes quite a bit to cause any damage.
Of course we all still hold the syringe vertically and flick it to get the air to the top, because it looks cool!

you can take a little bit of air i asked my doc when i was in the er and he said it takes alot, probably 2-3 of the biggest rigs in ccs(u can tell im not a shooter) can definitly kill you as the air collects in the heart and eventully you'll get a air embolism like johanne said.

i heard it was like VAPOR LOCK like in a engine just in your heart

anyway i get the air out cause it makes it easier to register but who knows

People CAN die from air bubbles, but its rare. Its the big ones that will kill you fast. Tap your rig, and push the air out....good enoug.

Just give your fit a few good flicks with your ring finger. Plus, as someone mentioned above, getting most of the air/bubbles out makes it easier to see register (for those of us that fix tar).

The tiny bubbles never killed anyone. Except Don Ho, lol!
