Hi all. Was wondering if anyone has used this substance: agomelatine. Its a melatonin agonist and serotonin antagonist. My doctor gave me a sample of them today to assist with the insomnia and sleep disturbances I have which have reared their disturbing heads again. He also gave me temazepam but I don't especially want to take that due to past benzo addiciton. I also read that agomelatine is an effective antidepressant and possible aniolytic which would be great as I have been very depressed/borderline-suicidal of late as well as being uneasy and anxious and mildly dissociated, so I'd love for this to help both sleep and mood. :\

Anyone have any experience with this chemical? I'm taken temazepam tonihgt as I have not slept well in about 2 weeks but will begin tomorrow night with agomelatine and see how it goes. Fingers crossed, I don't know what else to do to be honest.

Any info appreciated. :)

edit: pls move to whatever forum is approriate is this isn't it.

Well, I have been taking this stuff for the last 4 nights. Definitely seems to be helping me sleep easier, though I have been having some intense nightmares, more than usual. It certainly feels mildly anxiolytic but it could be placebo. I believe this chemical requires ongoing use, ala SSRI's for peak effects to be felt. So far, no serotonergic side effects which is excellent; I dsilike the feeling one gets from things like SSRI's, DXM, tramadol, MXE, MDMA...

I am concerned as this is an expensive medication and I have no desire to become dependant on something, but from what I read, agomelatine doesn't cause the same discontinuation syndrome as SSRI's. My doctor has told me that it can be taken for 1-2 months to correct circadian rhythm and then stopped.
