"Darkness cannot be dissipated with more darkness.
Just as Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in San Diego shut the door on their latest drug-smuggling tunnel case, another one opened up.

On Wednesday, ICE officials arrested a 73-year-old Chula Vista woman on suspicion of overseeing the operation of an underground tunnel leading under the border to an Otay Mesa industrial park in San Diego.

On Thursday, they found a second tunnel, which is one longer and more sophisticated than the first.

The busts “eliminated a multi-million dollar drug smuggling venture and have reduced it to nothing more than a colossal waste of money on the part of the drug cartels," said William Sherman, the Drug Enforcement Administration's San Diego special agent in charge, in a statement.

"Our goal is to not only shut these tunnels down before they become operational, but to ensure that the cartels backing these elaborate smuggling operations are investigated and prosecuted."

The two tunnel discovered this week mark the sixth and seven cross-border passages that authorities have located in the last four years. Officials have found more than 80 tunnels from California to Arizona since 2006.

But the quantity of drugs – if any – that were successfully channeled through the tunnels found this week is unknown, authorities said. According to the federal complaint against Glennys Rodriguez of Chula Vista – who is accused of supervising the pathways - the warehouse where the first tunnel was found was purchased last May.

In their announcement, authorities described the elaborate passage smugglers had carved under the border:

The first tunnel was approximately 600 yards long, secured with wooden trusses and equipped with lighting and a crude rail system. Its exit on the U.S. side was 70-feet below ground and had a pulley system for hoisting packages to the surface.

Children’s toys were found strewn in the warehouse where the tunnel lead, officials said.

...

The second tunnel was about 700 yards long, had ventilation and a multi-tiered electrical rail system.

"eliminated a multi-million dollar drug smuggling venture and have reduced it to nothing more than a colossal waste of money on the part of the drug cartels" - the cartels have got $billions to play with, armies of soldiers & mules, and plenty of incentive, all provided by the obviously failing "war on drugs", and the latest plea from 'Michele Leonhart, the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration, has a message for those considering legalizing marijuana: Please, think of Fido.

Testifying on the DEA budget during a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing on Wednesday, Leonhart said she expected a number of things to happen after Washington and Colorado were allowed to go forward with the legalization of marijuana last year. What she didn't anticipate was the impact on man's best friend.

"There was just an article last week, and it was on pets. It was about the unanticipated or unexpected consequences of this, and how veterinarians now are seeing dogs come in, their pets come in, and being treated because they've been exposed to marijuana," Leonhart said.

"Again, it goes back to the edibles, it goes back to products that are in the household that are now made from marijuana, and it's impacting pets," Leonhart continued. "We made a list of the outcomes we thought that might happen in these two states. We never thought of putting pets down." '

Leonhart was referencing a story in USA Today which noted that the effects of marijuana could make it more difficult for a dog to breathe or vomit up a product that could kill them, like butter. The USA Today article noted, however, that on its own "marijuana itself isn't particularly harmful to dogs," and that dogs typically won't eat marijuana by itself.

The story referenced a 2012 study that found that two dogs who ate large amounts of marijuana-infused butter died, out of a sample of 125 dogs that were believed to have ingested marijuana.

Note to marijuana users in Washington and Colorado: Keep your dogs away from the pot brownies.

Ha it may have closed 2 but the cartel can have a thousand workers start a few more that will be better andore difficult to detect.

Yeah I'm sure the billionaires in the cartels are so distraught over the loss of a few crude tunnels they can easily remake. There is also no reason to think a non-toxic drug in edible form would be any more toxic to dogs. Dogs usually throw up food that is toxic to them. Cannabis doesn't even suppress breathing so what she said was complete bullshit. Has there ever been a case of aspiration of vomit in humans or animals due to cannabis? Seeing how cannabis isn't a sedative like alcohol I don't see how it would prevent vomiting. It reduces nausea but is not an anti-emetic as far as I know. They are really grasping at straw in terms of propaganda now. They attack weed from every possible angle on our dollar and still get raped in the end. Fuck Leonhart with capsaicin coated bayonets.
