Aeropress coffee maker for opiate CWE?

I was wondering if anyone has any experience using the Aeropress (http://aerobie.com/products/aeropress.htm) coffee maker for opiate/opioid cold water extractions...

Does it work? Tips, tricks for making it work better?

Or is it useless?

I purchased one today with the intent of making actual coffee with it, but it certainly seems like it could be dual-purpose. :D
 
that's actually a great question!

I tried my first cwe a week ago and failed miserably. the water would not drip through the filter, even after hours of waiting. I tried adding more water, but still no luck. I eventually just squeezed the filter, but not sure how much I lost in that process...
 
This has given me the idea of using my aeropress for my next san pedro extraction. I normally use a french press but I think this would work a lot better. I don't see why it wouldn't work for any type of extraction: the filter is specifically designed to take a lot of pressure so it's unlikely to rupture or anything. It makes great coffee too.
 
Thanks for the feedback. Mine got delivered today, but I guess I'll have to wait to test it until I can acquire some more, uh ... coffee.
 
Yes it works but not as well as I hoped.

Once the filter clogs with paracetamol/binders it becomes VERY difficult to get any more through. I suspect it may depend on the brand though as I've found Boots caplets much worse for this than their tablets.
Once you've got your mixture and are ready to filter it, I'd let it settle and try and pour off most of the clear liquid to put through the Aeropress. Then do a second run with the rest.
I've wondered if putting a thin sponge or cloth pre-filter above the paper filter could help eliminate this issue.
 
Pre-filtering is a really good idea for a CWE, I find it you get the big clumps of filler/paracetamol out first then it's much quicker to filer it properly afterwards :)

I've had problems with coffee filters being too slow in the past but pre-filtering works wonders. I did switch to kitchen towl for a while but it made me a bit jumpy as it was too quick really, I didn't trust it! Far better to be safe than sorry :)
