I have been injecting heroin for around 4 years and really want to quit. I was just looking for advice on some otc comfort meds since rehab isn't an option and seeing a dr isn't an option (no insurance). So any advice on how to make this as comfortable as possible.

I don't know your location, and how Obama care affected things nowadays, but when I was in that situation in Chicago, a friend told me to seek "state funded treatment." The catch is you get on a waiting list, which is at least a month. So your gonna use in that time most likely. Finally your day will come and you'll have to go on the first day appointment to get tested. Don't go sick or you will leave, cause it sometimes takes over 4-5 hours. I went sick and suffered. Wish someone warned me cause it seemed everyone else knew and were all good, not me, it was a true test of will power! Leave and get a fix and do the whole month wait all over! Or fight for your life! Finally in, I only had to pay a weekly fee of $12. You can afford to save your life, at that cost! In the end it was my dream come true, a way out! "State funded treatment center". My brother also was saved in this way! Family Guidance Centers, and from what I know, they have many locations. State funded treatment options! Methadone maintenance! Search, call, whatever, do it. Best of wishes and luck!

But seriously now...

Did Obama really Care?

Sorry, I couldn't help myself :p 8)

Seriously seriously though, you have options. If money is tight, there is always state insurance (assuming you don't live in like Texas or somewhere like Alabama in the south, although I know nothing about their deal TBH, just that I want nothing to do with it). And with that you can easily get on methadone.

If you've been using dope for a long time, especially if you've been injecting, then methadone maintenance might make sense. Or if you haven't been using for more than 6 months or a year or two, especially if you haven't been injecting and don't have any mental illness, then the six month methadone taper is an awesome AWESOME choice. Really a lifesaver for many.

We need to know more to give you good advice though OP. Best of luck <3
