Advice wanted after friend dies taking methadone.

When anyone is prescribed Methadone, at least here in Pennsylvania, they must be given an EKG to make sure their heart can handle it. This is in methadone clinics or from a pain management doctor

Methadone: I've been on methadone for narcotic treatment for 7+ years now and my daily dose is 210mg once daily. Once I was on the program for a few years I wasn't getting the buzz that I used to get from the done so I started drinking 2 bottles at once which was 420mg in a day. I also take Bromazepam (lectopam) along with my done because I like to get a good buzz going, but I didn't just do this the day I started methadone. I tested my tolerance over time and found that I can take 400+ mg of methadone and 10 6mg lectopam (bromazepam) and that's a comfortable buzz for me. This is where these people get into trouble. The think well my friend takes methadone so a little wont hurt me but the truth is a deadly dose for a human with no opiate tolerance is 30mg. I gave a friend a thimbleful full of dome and my friend said that wont do shit to me its not even a mouthful. It was about 20mg of methadone. This was on our lunch hour and when we went back to work I heard them paging and paging for my buddy but he wasnt answering. I found him in the stock room laying down behind an industrial freezer so he could not be seen and he was puking his guts out for at least 2 hours then he had to go home. Needless to say that was the last time I gave any away. I could just imaging if he had the lectopam in him 2, he would have been dead for sure. WARNING: If your not experienced in pharmaceuticals start small and work your way up extremely slow until you get to where you want to be. Puking is a sign of overdose and never go to sleep if you are extremly intoxicated. So sorry to hear this bro. It sucks when you lose a friend. Those amounts with no previous tolerance would certainly = an OD if not worse. So sorry again and i wish people will learn from this post as how not to party your first time with new stuff....

you have my condolences for the loss of your friend truly im currently taking methadone and probly have more experience with the cocaine use and methadone i know that the cocaine binge couldnt have done him any good ur friend that is. it includes drinking and smoking for sure while doing cocaine is huge effect on ur body and must have done a toll on him as u said it was a "he wasm on a binge" i gurantee u his blood preasure and body was flying higher then the sky and being on methondone brings ur breathing down it slows ur respatory system and altimately shut his breathing right down and he problly went peacefully anyways not many people get to get peacefully even tho 40 mg im at i couldnt imagine starting at 40mg or higher and i was an passing out at the 15mg they start u at i was also advid 80mg oxy user snorting 4 -3 a day and iv taken my methadone and then at night done alot of blow a ball but been fine jsut feel like my hearts comming out of chest and im fiddgity as fu&k as u could imagine. But iv never taken the methadone right with it . but right after i dont know what that would do as i research every drug i do and am to scard to take mty methadone right after i start comming down.. anyays good luck i hope u got the results back on the otopsy please share them with me im really curious myself and maybe he could save me in the process maybe that was his reason for dying. thanks best wishes.

Yes it is quite common to OD and die as a result of the overdose on Methadone and the main factor is the time it kicks in. A lot of people who are new to opioids or just new to Methadone don't realize the huge time it takes before you actually feel something of the meth.

I know of some kids that used to hang around, sell pieces of hashish and a couple of them began to experiment with opioids and those 3 overdosed and died not long after they started to try it.
2 died of Methadone and benzos and 1 of Suboxone and benzos.

• So the consensus is that you have to be really carefull and know your doses if you are going to combine opioids with other depressants such as alcohol, benzodiazepines, barbiturates and such.

• And always remember that Methadone takes a long time to kick in!
For me, im on MMT it takes 1½ hour before i start to feel "something" and when 3-4h have passed im at peak point where I feel it as much as I can at that dose.

My good friend who I loved very much died last weekend from a mix of Methadone and Xanax, after a long coke binging session. I am pretty sure he had not done Methadone before either. He was found dead in his bed on sunday night. He emailed me (strangely telling me what he had exactly taken, which was unusual) and rang me just before he went off to lay down.. that was the last I ever heard his voice, after that he was dead.

He emailed me the amounts of pills he had taken, this is what he took:

30mg of methadone, and 8 - 10 xanax (he said the 'strong' ones)

I'd be interested to know anyones views on the amount he took and the inbuilt risks that went along with this. I feel he wasn't really aware of how dangerous this mix was. Did he have much chance of coming round at all from this??... I know he was NOT a regular methadone user (like I say I suspect he had not taken it before in fact) but he was a regular user of pain killers on a daily basis.. which he had an addiction to but was trying to sort out.


this was his last email to me before he died:

"but instead of feeling the horrid withdrawls associated with any coke endeavor I feel ok. I took around 8- 10 xanax number ones, the strong one and 3 methadone 10mg , again the strongest ones. So I feel no withdrawl symptoms. In fact the methadone is the strongest thing I feel right, it's a bit overwhelmign which is good. I feel too tired to do anytihng right now in fact I'm npding out. However I have no cocaine wtihdrawls! Wi--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He rang me straight after he sent me this email... to speak to me, he sounded really high and falling into sleep. I found out he had died about 12 hours later.
I did not know that methadone was so dangerous... only after his death have I looked into it and realised. If I'd known before I would have made a phone call and had someone check on him as soon as I'd seen his email. That is the beauty of hindsight though.

well when you mix meds like that when you don't even have a tolerence, your asking to die no offense but you have to know what your body can handle and what it can't plain old! Be smart about your opiate ussage, things like this happen and then the fda cracks down even harder and fucks it up for all the responsible users! Sorry about your friend good luck.%)

That combination, especially with those amounts is a definate death if one doesn't have a tolerance for the Benzodiazepines & Methadone. I'm very sorry for your loss. I wish that people could know what kind of situation they are putting theselves into by taking a coctail of such high doses of depressants without a reasonable tolerance. It's a shame.

U have to know your limits, if your gona get high do it so you don't die. Then the FDA cracks down on the pharmies and fux it up for all the responsible users. What do you think happen with the old 80s ppl were dying because they were stupid about their use and bam now theres those op things that are horrible. ppl need to start getting high responsibly, I mean no your limits is all!

I truly believe he didn't mean to kill himself though, and I'm not just saying that to make you feel better (I don't think that would make you feel better in the first place). I also don't think the 30mgs methadone and 8-20mg alprazolam killed him, not those two alone. My opiate naive friend has survived 500mg morphine, yes 0.5 grams of morphine. Please don't comment on the stupidity, my point is just I don't think the methadone would kill him, and xanax doesn't really affect the respiratory system that much. I think, like some others who have posted in this thread, that the coke binge was part of the fatal combination, and perhaps the fact that he nodded off / went to sleep did 'the trick'. He could have easily vomited into his own lungs and choked that way. His body could have shut down, like certain people suggest. I'm not trying to make you feel bad, but you requested input on how he could have died and out of respect for you and your friend I thought I'd give you mine. And then of course it could have been an allergic reaction. Maybe someday the results of an autopsy will be undisclosed.

Again, I am truly sorry and my thoughts go out to you and his other friends and family.

really sorry to hear about it. After the stories I have read here over 2 days, I am thankful to be alive. I don't think I ever really knew what I was messing with, especially combo wise. They have told me in detox that I am lucky to be alive. I didn't know. James

I'm sorry for your loss.
Let me try to at least tell you from my personal experience, that email sounded/read as a "standard" I'm fucked up email. Unfortunately, I have wrote a few good bye emails/letters/texts and that email just didn't read that way in the slightest bit.
That and him callin you. He didn't give any inkling of it being a goodbye, did he?
I know it's not enough, but again I'm so sorry!
