Advice on supplementing with l-tyrosine post MDMA comedown?

I now swear by and take large amounts of 5-htp as soon as I feel myself coming down after taking MDMA. I find this diminishes prob 80%ish of the negative effects of the comedown.

I keep taking doses until I feel myself coming back to baseline or leveling off in a decent mood.

At these times I don't really feel a like I have a lack of dopamine, at least not that I'm aware of (which I'm certainly aware of after taking mephedrone for instance which comes in the form of sudden stabs of dread and impending doom).

Thing is though it is in the days after taking mdma that my brain feels like a wrung out sponge and having tried supplementing with l tyrosine it helped greatly to get rid of this and the accompanying blues and lack of motivation characteristic of low dopamine.

I had the idea to use tyrosine 1stly because the 5htp seems to lose it's effectiveness in the following days after the immediate comedown but secondly I got this same wrung out feeling after I would take mephedrone which is said to be mainly a dopamine agonist and when I'd take large doses of tyrosine it seemed to wipe that shit right up.

So too it worked in the same way when I took it a couple days after having dosed with mdma. My brain felt like an electrocuted fried sponge but dosing with tyrosine on the hour or so largly diminished this feeling bringing me back to a semblance of normalcy with great efficiency.

My question is though how soon would be safe to supplement with it due to the suspected neurtoxicity/danger associated with adding dopamine to mdma?

I might want to try taking it right on the comedown for experiments sake (though might not be any point cos like i say i don't seem to feel that dopamine deterioration till the days after) but wouldn't do it if it was likely to cause more toxic damage.

Also any guesses as to what is going on here other than haughtily writing it off as placebo?

MDMA is a dopamine and norepinephrine releaser as well. Also, supplementing with a single monoamine precursor tends to reduce the ability for other precursors to be properly absorbed -- they compete for transport, so if the transporter is saturated with one type, the others won't get a chance to make it into the brain. This effect is used in clinical settings to induce neurotransmitter depletion by supplementing lab animals' diet with a cocktail of amino acids that include everything but, say, tryptophan.

I'm not surprised at all that tyrosine helps (many speed users post-load with it to help them return to normalcy), but I'd be wary of taking it within a day or two of rolling due to the possibility of exacerbating any potential damage, like you said. If you pair it with some antioxidants (EGCG and alpha-lipoic acid come to mind) you should be in the clear.

EDIT: In a more general sense, I'd be careful with taking large amounts of precursor. I've personally found that I start to develop a bit of a dependence on them to feel normal. It's better for you, in my opinion, to get back to normal via exercise, proper nutrition, and mental discipline than it is to hinge your well-being on supplements. Of course, my feeling of dependence might be placebo, and if it really does help then so be it...just thought I'd throw a word of warning out there not to overdo it. :)

Cheers.

Do you have any idea how much mdma affects the dopamine? I know it is also a strong stimulant in higher doses I'd just be interested to know the average split of what neurotransmitters it acts on- like 60% serotonin/20% dopamin/20% norephedrine? Doesn't matter too much but interested nonetheless.

What do egcg and alpha lipoic do?

I already take N acetyl cysteine daily and take a mega dose of this on the comedown.

I used to try pre and post loading with mega doses of vitamin c up to like 5 grams either side but when I tried with and without I really didn't notice a difference so don't bother with that.

The only other thing I take is up to a gram of magnesium pre load for the jaw clenchies.

The 5htp and tyrosine seem to be the main badboys that make the difference.

Hmm, the transporter competition point you made is interesting, so that means if I were to take l tyrosine at the time time as the 5htp then there wouldn't even be much point anyhow due to competition? Could this be why taking 5htp BEFORE taking MDMA blunts it's effects cos the neurotransmitters are already 'occupied'?

Anyway like I said the 5htp seems to work a treat for the immediate comedown.

I'm really pleased I found the tyrosine to do the trick for the few days after cos I was still getting substantial malaise then.

I can still barely believe it that now I can get a super buzz and wipe out 90% of the comedown. I was so filled with glee this weekend that I was cheering to myself in my bed (though still wary I wasn't just high and was gonna drop but turns out I didn't and just gradually drifted into a nice chirpy mood).

I don't see the problem depending on supplements for this because they are in wide supply and I only take them for comedowns.

I actually find they disturb my sleep if taken outisde of the comedown setting (with 5htp, even though people say it's supposed to help) or don't have much of an effect except give me stronger orgasms (with tyrosine). So using them as a staple for the comedown I see as no different say, using mdma to get high in the 1st place! :)
