Opioids Advice on Quiting Opiates

So I first started using opiates recreationaly a little over 2 years ago. Starting first with just codeine and then moving up to hydrocodone and percocet and such, using at low doses and just a couple times every few months. About a year ago I was taking 20mg of oxycodone every week for about 2 months, and quit cold turkey out of fear of becoming addicted. I then didn't use any opiates (save for a few vicodens and percocets on very rare occasions) until about 2 months ago when I found out that one of my friends had a strong oxycontin hookup. I then started doing it again on a regular basis, snorting 40mg at a time, using it on average 3-4 days out of every week. I fear that I am now becoming addicted, as when I stop using the drug for a couple days I get strong cravings. Luckily, I'm now going to be moving to a new city where I don't have any drug connections, and I was wondering what to expect, such as side effects or withdrawls. any advice on how to deal with cravings? I just used the last of the oxycodone that I had tonight, and well be leaving my town for good on a plane in two days so I wont be buying anymore of the drug. any help is strongly appreciated, I really don't want to crave this drug for the rest of my life.

If you stop for several days and all you get is cravings and no physical/mental issues/symptoms you shouldn't go through withdrawals by stopping this time either.

As far as not "craving the drug for the rest of your life" I'd suggest replacing it with something good. Sports, activities, hobbies, anything you can. Replace your love for opiates with a fun hobby or something. If you have a lot of downtime where you are just sitting around doing nothing you will start to think about opiates and therefore start to crave them.

Stay busy and stay clean my friend.

Yeah, I try to keep myself busy with school and a healthy social life, and also find that running regularly helps kind of replace the opiate high. I appreciate your support, it sucks having noone to really go to in my life for support, only person who knows about my opiate use is my friend/dealer

That's great that you are keeping yourself busy especially with exercise. Problems with craving will get a lot better with time, every week it will get better.

You won't go through intense physical withdrawals but you probably will get some mild ones like runny nose, sore muscles, trouble sleeping or eating but good diet and exercise will help with almost all of those.

Yes it does suck having no one to go to for support but that's why we're here buddy :D

whats the longest you've gone without using in the last two months? i find that with oxy it really takes like 3 solid days of not using for the withdrawal to start to peak full force and then like another 5 to 7 days to start really feeling better.

if you've been doing a 40 three to four days a week for two months i think you should plan on experiencing at least some mild withdrawal.. you'll be alright though, and you should be feeling normal again within a week or two.

probably aches, more bowel movements, some sleep troubles, etc

nothing you won't be able to handle. meds may be a little overkill though some tylenol and benadryl will help keep you regular

I've defiantly been sober for 4 days straight a couple times, but I don't think any longer than that. I've also had a few week-long binges and whatnot..

yea youll probably be fine, im sure it wont be too bad.. i just know for myself i like to psychologically prepare for the worst so im not just like blindsided when i start feeling shitty, you know?
anyway let us know how it goes and good luck.

Do you think I'll have standard opiate WDs or just a general shitty feeling?

No, I don't think so. I think you will just wana get high very badly for a few weeks.

Also, the city is where everyone gets their dope from, so dont be switchin to that shit if you are trying to get clean X_x

Try and find a bit of suboxone, but instead of jumping on a ridiculously high dose and fucking up your tolerance, start on like .5 mg and taper down to .25 or .1 or as low as you can. If you start takin 1-2mg your tolerance will go up though b/c its so low right now.

So yeah very low dose subs will keep your addict satisfied b.c you know your still using an opiate, but it wont make a dent on your funds since an 8mg would last anywhere from a couple weeks to a couple months depending on your doses. And you will have sub in your system, which should be a reason not to take other opiates. Just my 2c. I've been dosing subs 3 days after developing a little h habit where i went a few weeks with 3 days or so using and then 1-2 clean and rinse/repease. Have finally begun to amass some currency to pay back bank/people. Although i almost didnt want to do the sub b/c then i cant get high, but i realize now that it gives me a mild buzz and that i can be much more efficient and not seek pain relief on them b/c they help w/ my pain which is the main reason i seek painkillers, heroin being the most economical option.

Lets not forget loperamide (immodium). OP, sub might not be necessary, immodium will sort your bowel probs (if you get any), and although it supposedly doesn't cross the blood/brain barrier (so no opiate high), it seems to ease the whole withdrawal process in every aspect.

Could be a placebo effect in some ways, but it definetly will stop the runs no doubt about that.

dont listen to pepper, youre not using nearly enough to need suboxone. that shit just drags the withdrawal out anyway. just tough it out, youll be fine dude.

Yeah, I'm moving to Chicago which I hear, like any city, is abundant with street opiates. Luckily most of my friends there are pretty straight-laced so hopefully I won't have many opportunities to do it or find out where to get it. I was thinking of volunteering at a methadone clinic awhile back, but I think that would be a bad idea now since I should probably try to avoid triggers.

yeah, I tried methadone a week ago and after using I just wanted to get oxy again so I think I think cold turkey would be the best route for me

True that, that's pretty much what I'm trying to find out, what's the worst I should prepare for.

Thanks a lot for the advice and support everyone, your comments are really helping me out.

oh yeah. but many of us came/coming/will come off of years of daily use. it'll suck but you'll most likely be fully functional

suboxone couldn't hurt, as long as you *actually* used it as a stepping stone. at this point, there's absolutely no need for maintenance, but a small suboxone taper (a matter of weeks) could perhaps make the withdrawals that much more bearable, enough that you feel functional *enough* to do everything during that time

it depends on how you feel subjectively, how disruptive the withdrawal is being to your life

I don't have any connections to get suboxone, but I can find methadone. Not sure if I should use it tho as it's supposed to be a lot more powerful than subs, and since I don't have a strong opiate dependence yet it might be kinda overkill.

nope quit now you dont need anything to ween u off.

buy a bag of pot and smoke that whenever u crave it.

Ur on the presupice where if u dont stop now you WILL GET PHYSICALLY Addicted ur already mentally addicted even if u dont know it or deny it.

U dont need suboxone..

Nothing other than abstinence. Oxy withdrawal hits 12 to 24 hours after use so if u can go a cuple days u dont have it and you dont want it

not worth the highs bro trust me.

Yeah, I can feel that I am pretty much on the verge of addiction. Mentally, I admit that I probably already am addicted, as I think about OC pretty much all the time if I don't have it.
