First, by indoors I mean 2-3 pots placed by the window; nothing fancy like extra lights or extra room. The reason for this is to see how well (or not) the poppy can do indoors without any special care & with just the bare minimums; sunlight from the window & water! It is a weed after all, so it should do well even without the constant sunlight from a field for example.
I am looking for any advice from anyone who may have done this in the past of may know of someone who has done this prevously. Hopefully you can inform us on what works & what doesn't,
1. Weather the poppy plant can survive/perform well with the bare minimum conditions in regards to indoor planting,
2. If the poppy plant is prone/pretentious to any particular kind of soil, temperature, etc
3. Any information that may be of use to someone thinking of doing this
The thing about sprouting is every year in the past I've taken advantage of my garden & would always save a spot for poppies right beside my parsley, basil and mint. I wouldn't get anything much from my harvest (20-30 plants during the entire summer maybe but they looked so pretty)!
The point however is that every time I planted I always underestimated how resistant the poppy seed is in respects to age in that even 2-3yrs old seeds will have a 90%+ germination rate. As a result when I'd plant I would throw my seeds Afghan style, taking large amounts of seeds & simply throwing them on top of soil (by the hundreds, literally). Within a week at the most I would have what looked like a minature football/soccer field. I would spend an entire week plucking out a bunch of seedlings from the ground in order to make room for other plants b/c they would have been ridicously close.
Thanks!
p.s. My apologizes if this doesn't belong in the OD forum.
