Advice for switching ADD meds

I've had ADD since I was 3 years old, but have just been diagnosed last week, I'm now 19. I need the meds for school, but I also like to do them recreationally less than once a week. They've started me off on Concerta, which is devoid of recreatinal value. I've tried both Ritalin and Adderall quite a bit recreationally years ago, and preferred Ritalin. My question: Is their some way I can get them to prescribe me regular Ritalin, or should I just try for Adderall, as it's better than Concerta. Now for the inevitable complication: I'm also a medical student and need effective medication from 8am to midnight due to my intensive academic needs. The need for a long lasting treatment is their reasoning for putting me on Concerta in the first place, so I don't see a reason for them to put me on regular Ritalin 3 times a day. My favorite med is Ritalin 20mg SR, but they're pretty much the exact same thing except that Concerta is unsnortable. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Say that for whatever reason Ritalin seemed nicer on your body than Concerta and say you'd just assume take Ritalin several times a day rather than take an SR or Concerta.
Personally I think you'd be better off with Adderall, though. It's more recreational and last a long time for your therapeutic use anyways.

thats odd you like ritalin better, I prefer adderal. The buzz seems 'cleaner' and I dont feel as shitty comin' down. but to each his own...

My advice would be to use them recreationally as little as possible if you NEED them for theraputic reasons because I've noticed that after using a stimulant recreationally the theraputic effect is diminished for a week or so. I also would say maybe you should ask about the newly approved adderall XR... its a super long lasting version of adderall.. supposed to last 12-14 hours vs adderalls 6-8, making it in your doctors eyes less abusible but if you crush it up and snort it, it would still get you high.

Has anyone used both Adderall and Adderall XR, or just Adderall XR? Does it still have recreational value for crushing and snorting?
I can't tell them regular Ritalin is nicer on my system than Concerta, because I've never been legally prescribed regular Ritalin. I don't want to take the 'I know because I took my friend's' route, because they know I'm a medical student and I should know better than to do that.
