Opioids Adverse Reaction To Codeine Linctus

I am experienced with Codeine and have used various forms of it many times before. However, I drank approximately 120-140ml of Codeine Linctus (each 5ml containing 15mg Codeine Phosphate) just over an hour ago on a relatively empty stomach, I also took one 10mg Phenegran (promethazine Hydrochloride) to reduce the itch. I began to feel the effects in 5-10minutes (I drank it in gulps in the space of half an hour)

Then I had a meal which I cooked up while I was drinking it, halfway through eating I noticed An itch which began at the back of my ears and slowly started making its way down my back. I have had this type of Itch before and I could instantly tell it was the unpleasant kind, not the nice type of itch which I get on Dihydrocodeine. This is the type of itch which I got the one and only time I did DXM (the type of itch which feels like crawling under the skin) I have had this itch with Codeine Linctus before, but never to this extent. I then noticed my back felt lumpy or spotty, I asked my friend to have a look and was shocked to find out there's lots of swollen streaks on my back and got him to take a photo. I have now taken another 10mg of Promethazine but it hasn't seemed to help. The itch is intense and slowly working its way down my body (its now on my thighs) It is the same brand of Codeine Linctus I drank before but the label and cap are slightly different. I am quite concerned. It seems to be an allergic reaction but I am not sure. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. What I don't understand is, why has this not happened before?

High doses of Codeine do produce ad itching and a warm sensation around my neck. Codeine Linctus, used to be given it as a kid if I had a bad cough, I would really look forward to taking it, partly cos it tasted so nice.

When younger used to be given Famels by my gran, think that had codeine in it. She also produced the most brilliant rhubarb wine. So used to get tipsy when I was at primary school age. Loved it, I would whine for the wine!
