Adulterated psuedefed

Has anyone encountered adulterated 12 or 24 hour psuedoephedrine containing medications that cause problems with Birch Reduction reaction? After reduction a sponge like mass is left behind and quality is reduced. Any info would be appreciated.
 
Synthesis questions aren't allowed. You aren't asking for a recipe so maybe this is OK...

Yes, problems with those (mostly the 12 hour) are common. The wal-act 60's seem to work best.
