Allright, after readng Fear and Loating in Las Vegas I didn't give this stuff a second thought. However, after reading Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72, which is a non-ficton book in which Thompson himself takes "40 cc's of adrenochrome," my curiosity was piqued. I know that posts about this stuff in the past were met with skepticism and denial of any value at all. However, I have learned quite a bit about it today, and am led to believe that is simply not the case. So let us assume, for the sake of dicussion, that someone is insistent upon giving it a go. This person knows that epinephrine can be oxidized (using silver oxide, for example) to form adrenochrome, but his kowledge of chemistry is somewhat lacking. One past-synther said they first mixed the epinephrine with HCl, what would be the point of this step? Would it create an epinephrine salt that would then be oxidized? That doesn't seem right at all, so is the Hydrochloric acid step necessary? The reason I ask is because adrenochrome is very unstable, and is broken down readily by HCl. Therefore if too much is added for the first step, the excess will destroy the prodct of the second reaction. The two molecules can be found at Molecular Models, if that helps.
Also, while I generally appreciate constructive criticism of any kind, please do not respond with, "Adrenochrome is bullshit!" I already know Bluelight's general opinion of it. I think one shold determine such things for one's self, once they have the means.
