Destroyed
Alone
You crawl on bloody knees
I am your drug
I am your addiction
I am your nicotine
Without me
You are the way you are
So lost
So cold
So hollow
I gave you life
I gave you lust
You had forsaken me
Now I am gone
You're left crumbling
I now give you pain
I give you hatred
I will give you death
As you fall apart without your fix
Broken bones
Broken soul
You crawl to bed alone and cold
I am your drug
I am your addiction
I am your nicotine
Without me
You are empty
And so sooner or later
Your battered body falls before me
On bloody knees
Again
Dying for my euphoria

Ok....it seems to me that in this poem you are taking the place of a drug that causes addiction. Im probably wrong on my assumption, but I can definetly say that you have described "addiction" adequately. Just remember that when people become addicted to something its a demon they will always have to fight...."fallen messiah". If you wish to go anywhere in this life you are give you have to look for the positive....and with addiction, that positive could be resisting as long as you can and falling down with "bloody knees".
Im not a true fan of such depressed poems, but I must say...if you were trying to portray a drugs control over someone, you did an adequate job.
My worthless .02 cents.
Shelle

I wasn't portraying drugs, but addiction in general. One does not necesarrily have to be a drug abuser to have an addiction of some sort.
An addiction comes about through four steps.
-Curiosity
-Infatuation
-Devotion
-Enslavement
Forgive me for my dark, rather morbid perspectives, but ironically enough, without them, your positives in life would not be appreciated as much.

There is another way of going about in life, Shellebear. Rather than seeking for he positives, which are ever-so-fleeting in this world, I prefer the grimmer, more realistic approach and prey upon the negatives of others. Think me evil, wicked, or deplorable if you must, but it is the way I am. I was once an idealist just as you were, but your God has taken much from me and therefore, I have shut the light of his despicable glory out. So you see why I have entitled myself the Fallen Messiah.

Im sorry that youve taken my reply in the wrong way. I was just trying to interpret your poem. I can see how it does portray addiction, and the steps involved. And your right, addiction can be in lots of other things besides substances.
And no, I do not think of you as "wicked or despicable or whatever". Everyone is intitled to view the world however they wish. If you chose to look at the world from a pessimistic view, that is your choice. I am not an idealist, and I dont understand where God came into this conversation. And I also agree that without the bad we would not appreciate the good.
My only point was to try and not see life as all misery......leave a little hope for happiness to shine through. If you completly turn your back and frown persay, whose to say someone was not falling in love with your smile at that time.
Anyway, it was a well written poem.

Aye, I apologize for my defensiveness. Again, I thank you for your interpretation and your comments.
