soma: no, i'm stopping because I hate being dependant on anything and as entropope said, its easy for me to stop now before it gets out of hand, although the kryal thing did make me wake up. That tested my boundries no end.
Its easy if I dont have it on me. I really cant hold on to things like speed, weed etc but have no problem with things like trips and pills. I can hang on to those for ages. Hell, I still have half a CU sitting in my stash.

I think most folk kind of 'grow out of' pot in mid-late 20's. I'm not there yet, but i see that going on down the track.
All in all, I've o idea if I'm happy or not about smoking so many cones over the years. Good points. Bad points. So many of each and some so intense. *sigh*
I guess if you don't want to smoke pot for a long time, stop, or at least break it down to a once a month or so thing asap. I'm just gonna wait it out right now.
Fuck man! My friend that picked up my ounce for me is out. And he's lost his mobile. Ok I'm off to drive around Perth looking for him...

Well I cannot talk with personal experience on quitting any substance besides the coffin nails which are ciggaretes. But I have helped many of my friends give up drugs, because they where using them to handle problems in there own life. Addiction 90% is all in the mind. It is like this you develop a routine, an example of this every time you go out you have a e, regardless, of who you are going out with like clockwork, you have a e every time you go out. Then for 1 year, every time you go out you cannot e, you have got yourself in a routine for such a long time of every time you go out you have gota have that e, and you remember all the times that where good where on e, and the physcilogical dependence remains, that to e, you have to have a good time, or in your case, you have to have a toke to sleep.
How to quit the addiction, as a few people said, try cutting down gradually set yourself a goal, say by 2 weeks, I only want to smoke 2 times a week, then by a month only 1 a week, then at 6 weeks, none at all. Set your goals, and most of all to be sucsefull at quiting, you have to want it bad, in your mind, especially if going cold turkey, it may take you a few tries, but hang in there, with confindence, and a bit of endurance anyone can quit

i meant more of a rave party tho.. i find it really hard to go to a party sober and stay that way, it pretty much only ever happens when we just cant get anything anywhere. it would be nice to have some sober company.. esp if that company understands how hard it can be.. its really hard to enjoy being straight when the people around you are blissfully fukt up and you are just tired.

I smoked for about a year and got sick of the lethargy and the 'dirty feeling' as someone else mentioned. I believe it also affected my immune system as I became susceptible to colds and shit when i usually never got sick.
Horse you've taken the first important step by admitting it's getting outta control - my g/f frustrates me by denying her daily pot smoking is an addiction.
I found the best way to give up is to gradually cut down as someone else mentioned. Write up a strict regime eg. first week skip every 2nd day next week only smoke a couple of times. Nowdays I smoke occassionally and enjoy it.
A mate of mine inadvertantly took a cold-turkey approach which was painful but worked like a dream - he snorted so much friggin go that he got a killer throat infection so the bong was outta the question for weeks

Sorry to post so late...
But Horse...I didn't say that I dont' associate with MJ smokers, Heroin users etc...I just said that I don't like Coke/Speed heads. What I meant from that is people who have serious problems relating to those drugs.
Unfortunately I have seen a few of my friends go down the addiction path. I have a friend who is currently stuck on H and to tell the truth it has wrecked our friendship. We used to be very very close, but since she started everything has changed. Yes I said things to her about quitting and tried to show her that she had a bad habit, but unfortunately it fell on deaf ears. I found it difficult because it took all my energy just to be in the friendship. She no longer wanted to go out anywhere. She was unwilling to spend time with me. She closed herself up and stopped telling me anything because she was worried that she might just hurt me with news aboout what she had been doing lately. The smack became her new best friend. So yes, I dispise the drugs.
I also had a few friends addicted to speed. One of them became unintelligable and suffered from extreme paranoia and speed psychosis. (fortunately she got pregnant and decided to give up the drugs to care for her baby). All of the others became very nasty individuals that bitched behind each others backs. I feel that this kind of behaviour is destructive. So as a result I don't like speed heads.
Lastly, I do have a problem with coke heads, but this may be not be very substantiated. I know a few people who take coke, their attitudes generally stink. The are so pretentious that they can't help but sneer and make passing comments about other people who they think are below them. That said, one of them has realised that he does this and has made a conscious effort to improve his attitude.
So if I find that I am being adversely affected or hurt by the people that associate with, I deem it bad for my health. And rather than try to force my opinion on them and say 'drugs are bad mmkay' I leave them to it and remove myself from harm. It saves both parties involved at the end.
So ultimately it is not that I don't associate with people who do these drugs, I have trouble dealing with people I care about when they are being adversely affected by the drugs that they take. I have a lot of frineds who take speed and MJ all the time. But it doesn't mean that I have to like the drugs they take.
Sorry Horse, but I am not as closed minded as you may think. I am just sick of being hurt by the ones I love.

well ive had that conversation with myself about a 100 times

,usually when im coming down,well im not addicted to drugs,BUT,id sure rather be on them than to be straight.reallity is just to easy a thing to get bored with when your straight,and being on drugs makes things just that little bit more interesting ,it puts an edge on otherwise repetative boring shit that id lose interest in very quickly any other time,smoking bongs are the same,i can say i smoke very often,not every day,say every other day and i always take a few weeks off,my bong smoking system works like this
when i dont remember my dreams,i know im losing short term memory,SO,i take a couple of weeks off,BUT.....its winter now ,and i love nothing better than having a few friends over for a smoke,u know cave man stay in cave when cold,make fire,AHHHH.....so my system may not work too well in winter.....um....what was i saying

Horse, I understand where you're coming from. Good luck with it mate: it took me about six months to kick weed from being a daily "gottahaveit" smoker to the point where I could take it or leave it if it was offered to me. I don't know if you turned up my "I'm an addict" post in your searching or not, but I let myself overdo it with the pills too - addictive personality & all that.

Anyway, the partying was affecting my uni & work, & it took a bit to realise the harm that I was doing myself, but I've picked myself up & dusted myself down & managed to get through uni with nary a scratch to my average.

I've come to the conclusion that pills don't kill your intelligence - just your short-term memory & then only for a little bit.

Sorry, where was I? Oh that's right, you!

Good luck man - quitting is one of those times when you'll learn quite a bit about yourself. Like all drug experiences, really!

With the permission of Mr. Horse, I'd like to ask another question of you BLs, within this "addicted" thread. I would start a new topic, but it seems to fit in here.
I would like to ask people if you have a feel for what symptoms one would experience when feeling withdrawal from: speed, coke, mull, mdma. Basically - if you were using these chemicals for an extended period on a regular basis and then stopped, what would you feel, what would happen to you?
Of course, I don't mean to drag up painful memories for people, or ask for your personal experiences if you're not comfortable sharing them publically. I know there are listed medical side effects in web references online - but quite often I think to myself "how would I know if I was feeling that?".
Again it's a sombre question, but one I would really like to know the more information about. Thanks for any input.

Hmm Mr.Horse. I find I can EASILY hold ontu drugs just as long as I don't drink alcohol. As soon as I begin to drink I want to take something. LSD/SPEED etc...
I find I can easily hold ontu various drugs
IE .5 points of pure/10 x Mitsi/2 x Heart/Salvia Liquid Extract/2c-t-7.
I take them, but my friend tells me if he had all that he would use it up in one week, he doesn't understand why I don't want to have them! HEHEHEH!

I like the topic though, its one of those more TRUTHFUL topics.

Well, i just got back from the pub after my 4th day without cones and the 25 i had in my pocket remains untouched (unfortunately the bar is down a few beers

Anyway, I gotta say I'm proud. No cones since Sunday and I've got an ounce sitting in my desk.

Woah...After reading the posts for this thread I think I can say yes I need the weed and am sort of 'addicted' and can understand Mr H.
I've been smoking every day for the last two years but before that it was a twice to three times a week thing. And then it was only a spliff or 3 bongs, but I'm not a big fan of the bong. I'll have one if no spliffs are available but I find j's a bit more sociable and soothing to the soul whilst I roll 'em. It's rewarding to smoke a number which has been hand-rolled. I used to use the rolling machine many years ago but one warm night in Milan I spent many an hour perfecting a joint(actually just farkin' trying to handroll a j!). I bought a shitload of papers and sat there all night doing the following: roll, destroy, roll another one. By night's end I could handroll and haven't looked back since. Now when friends come over or I visit they just pull out their green and hand it to me to roll (not gloating, I find this a farkin' pain in the arse sometimes! Mind you we do follow the roller's etiquette - the j is started by he who rolls! Saves me heaps of my own green!! he he).
Anyway, I too have recently thought of cutting back. Back to the old days where the weekends are for smoking and not a lot of smoking at that. But I find that as soon as I'm thru the door at home I'm sitting on my couch rolling.
And as everyone has repeated the weed does fark with the brain and memory. And makes us lethargic and unwilling to do shit! And yet sometimes I've done a heap of stuff ripped off my nut!! Will-power over weed-power!
Mr H you have inspired me (and everyone else here who has thought/done the same). I shall try and slow-down and beat the weed! But not tonight! Tonight is Manga and Mr Hoffy night!

I guess I'm one of those lucky 'i have a non addictive personality' people, although, I am kinda partial to smiths barbecue chips. Mmmm, chips (might have to duck up to the shop!).
Seriously but, I totally understand where you're coming from guys. An ex boyfriend of mine used to do the 'i dont need it I just want it routine'.
He was kidding himself.

The first thing he did in the morning was reach for his bong, the last thing he did at night was, yup, reach for his bong. On a good day he might have only 10 cones. On days when he hung out with his mates he often had 30 to 40 cones.
He didn't work so that happened a lot.
He liked his bong so much that he couldn't even take a drive up the coast without doing 'mobiles'. This involved me holding the steering wheel (from the passenger seat) while he packed a cone and smoked it.
I blame pot almost entirely for what happened to our relationship. He became so aggressive, so paranoid and so completely irrational that it made it impossible for me to stay with him.
Don't kid yourself. It's the drug running the show, not you, when things get this bad.
Moderation. I know it sounds cliched but I really think that's what people with addictive personalites need to remember.
Good on you Mr Horse. Stay true.
