So I have been taking 2mg of xanax, EVERY OTHER DAY, for about the last 2 months. I am worried that I might still become addicted, or already have. so my question is whether or not the fact that I take it every other day AND not every day will make a difference in terms of getting addicted. Any info, advice, etc. would be greatly appreciated, cause Ive heard many horror stories about benzo withdrawals and I don't want to let myself get to that point. %)

2mg of xanax is not a small dose, in the scheme of things. Even though you are consistently skipping days between doses, there is still a grave possibility that if you were to completely cease dosing xanax that you would experience some kind of withdrawals. Probably not serious, to the point of grand mal seizures, but rebound anxiety and moderate physical symptoms none the less.

Personally, if I take benzodiazepines for longer than about 3 weeks regularly I will exhibit withdrawal symptoms.

I would try to reduce the regularity of dosing, and keep them for when you REALLY need it, i.e. panic attacks.

Will it make a difference? Yes. Will it prevent you from getting addicted? No, not if you keep taking it regularly. It will just take a little longer to develop an addiction.

You're right about benzo withdrawals being horrible. You don't want to experience it for yourself. Good luck!

Well you could always do a taper with any xanax you have left to minimize any possible withdrawal symptoms.

Try dosing one day, skipping two days, see how that goes. Benzo withdrawl can take a while to kick in, especially to peak, but it may help to give you a general idea if you've developed an addiction. I'm sure at the very least you'll have exponential cravings if you stopped cold turkey.

I would think you might experience some slight addiction but that is such a lame generalized term.

This could be a play on words but you're likely more dependent than addicted. I think one is addicted not only because of physical need, but the drug use is causing many other problems in their life. You're probably going to have some discomfort with quiting... but hopefully no cravings. I like cyrax idea of going 2 days without... but with the caveat of only taking 1mg the 3rd day. Then you can decide what you want to do from there and ask for more advice.

2mg is not a small prescription dose.

Honestly you'll experience some re bound anxiety and that's about it. Alot of people take benzo's in weird ways as needed and are able to stop. Now start taking it everyday for a few more months and you might be in trouble.

Right now your good. I would chop down your 2mg's to 1mg when you need it.
