Adderall XR and Potentiation via Antacids (TUMS)...Will this shorten the duration?

If I take adderall XR (either crushed or uncrushed) along with Tums or baking soda, will this increased absorption due to alkalization cause the drug to be metabolized and excreted from my system faster? Or in other words, will it provide increased effects/more intense rush for a shorter period of time and a quicker comedown? Just curious if anyone actually knows this? I'm aware it increases the absorption but I'm not aware of its effects on duration

For example, I'm an experienced user of XR's. I generally use them for school and my tolerance is very high these days. I've been experimenting with Tums etc. and it does seem to increase the effects or "rush" which does provide that motivated drive to complete more work, although, it seems like it isn't lasting as long as it should when I do experiment with tums/hydration/ and overall alkaline diet. Is it just me? My tolerance? Does it increase the rush but speed up the duration?

If it does increase the body's ability to metabolize the compound faster along with shorter durations, would taking smaller XR dosages at night (crushed finely by mortar), around 9:00 p.m. along with Extra Tums before dosage/during and after allow for a quicker effect/excretion...therefore allowing one to sleep more easily?

One last question. Does anyone have any good combinations to counter act adderall at night in order to fall asleep? I used to have Trazadone on hand but I no longer have it. Melatonin is not very effective. Thanks

it is increasing both duration and blood levels...

I advise to just simply take a break...

using things to come down only build two dependencies instead of one.

It's fine doing that practice every now and then.

Thanks psychedelic Jay. Your Are right, a break is much needed. Although I do have ADD and my semester is nearing finals so a break will have to wait until Winter break. If I stop now I wouldn't be able to keep up with my workload, I study sciences (not to say this is especially harder or of more importance) but It is difficult for me. I guess the minimum sleep and increasing tolerance will have to do for a few more weeks!

I'm not sure what tums has to do with the "potentiation" of Adderall. I think you mean "potentation" ;)

Anyways, calcium carbonate (tums), sodium bicarbonate (alka-seltzer, baking soda) and other non-toxic alkalization agents don't actually potentate the effects of Adderall. What they do is actually allow more Adderall to be absorbed by your stomach and gastrointestinal tract. Fun fact: Dissolving alka-seltzer in water is where the term "bicarbonative soda" came from.

For a mountainous amount of information on the subject, view my "FAQ & Guide - How To Get The Most Out Of Amphetamines!" thread. :)

If you want to clear amphetamine from your system somewhat faster, acidifying the urine with something like cranberry juice is an effective option; by lowering pH it encourages amphetamine to form a water-soluble salt instead of a fat-soluble freebase.

What about Vitamin C as the OP claiming that said?

Sort of related question. Google gives me no information.

While attempting to write a comedown guide for my amphetamine thread, I was thinking of possible aids that could terminate all effects of amphetamine. Obviously, antidopaminergic antipsychotics are what came to mind first, however, I hate antipsychotics and I'm sure many others do as well. So I came up with another idea. Do you know of any antidopaminergic drugs that aren't dopaminergic antagonists? Maybe something like a a channel blocker so hyperpolarization can't occur as often?

After saying that, Benzo's came to mind, but not everyone has easy access to benzo's. I mean more of a blocking agent, like a ganglionic blocker, but of dopamine? Not sure if such a thing exists, is practical, or would be effective centrally. Just an idea...

Not really. A better option is to not take amphetamine in situations where you can't deal with the side effects of amphetamine.

Antidopaminergics of short-moderate duration (or benzos) are the best solution - Seroquel or the like are the lesser evil between that and a freakout on amphetamine. Other than that you just have to treat supportively... I don't think there are any drugs that counteract amphetamine without interacting with dopamine or the adrenergic system.

The best option, of course, is waiting it out.

Well...its clear you two certainly know more about the biochemical interactions of this compound than I do, can't argue with a neuroscientist. Very informative thanks. I agree on simply dosing the amphetamine during a responsible time where side effects would't be an issue. I'm simply overloaded with the amount of material expected to be mastered before each deadline along with conflicting courses. It doesn't help my earliest class starts at 7:30 a.m :D. Although good news is, I can actually get access to a beta-blocker (inderal), clonazepam, and or muscle relaxant cyclobenzaprine (probably not the wisest option especially benzo). I think I will go with the cranberry juice and benzo at low dosage only for finals week if time/sleep becomes an issue again. (I'm aware it's a controlled substance with addictive nature, I will use not abuse). Thank you everyone for your help
