Hey all. I've been poppin adderall here and there the past month and a half and my tolerance has raised significantly. The first 2 times, I got high off of 20 mg (ir) then increased to 30 and then 40 mg. NOw, I just don't get high. I took a total of 80 mg today and felt no effects besides anxiety (about how much I took) And insomnia. I prepared with tums an hour beforehand and drank a few cups of coffee to try and heighten it a bit. No help. My high tolerance is pretty bizarre, I think, because I haven't been binging on them during my time using- I only averaged about 14 separate days poppin em. Would a break help lower the tolerance so I can actually get a little high? How long will my tolerance stay down if I do take the break? I should also mention that I do in fact have add.. I'm not really trying to treat it with the adderall though, I'm using it for recreation mostly. Am I not gettin high because I do actually have add? What's the overdose risk and how serious are the symptoms? Any pointers and shared experiences would be appreciated.... :)

One summer, a while back, I was popping a lot of dexedrine (pretty much the same thing as adderall) and that was the only time I experienced a tolerance. I remember how shitty it was. I tried so hard but I just wouldn't get high, at all, much to my frustration lol. I finally just realized I needed to take a break and let my tolerance go down. I can't remember how long of a break I took before they worked again... I doubt it was more than 2 weeks though. I would say wait *at least* 1 week, if you can make it to 2, even better. A magnesium supplement can help prevent tolerance once you get it back down.

I don't think this has anything to do with your ADD, if you've gotten high from it before. I, supposedly, have ADD as well, but I get high as a kite off of dexies lol.

As for overdose risk, that's hard to say. It's definitely possible to OD on a stimulant like adderall. Usually after numerous high doses. Hyperthermia (massive overheating, the opposite of hypothermia), vomiting, rapid breathing or trouble breathing, panic attack, seizures, are all symptoms of a stimulant overdose. If you start to experience any of those symptoms, don't take anymore and get some medical help if your symptoms are bad enough. Those type of symptoms are very serious, a stimulant overdose can result in heart attack, stroke, renal failure and hyperthermia alone can kill you quickly. There is also the risk of amphetamine induced psychosis, which I've seen someone in before and it's not a fun place to be.

I also try to be aware of high blood pressure and vasoconstriction and how bad that it while I'm high. I take relatively lower doses nowadays, last time I did dexedrine I only did 100mg throughout the night and next day, and I've always been fine, but it's really good to know the signs and symptoms of a stim OD and hopefully prevent the possibility.

Once you get to the point where you've used so much that you've built up a tolerance, I think that's a good time to take a good look at your use. I know that for me, that was when I realized I was going overboard with the dexies.

The best way to maintain a high or positive effect from adderall is to take breaks in between dosing if you can help it. I take it twice a week and it works everytime at 60mg, because after taking it at the prescribed dose of 20mg twice a day for the first 5 days it lost it's positive effects/high and turned into a whirlpool of depression and irritablity.

You can try taking L-tyrosine a few times a week here and their preferably days when you don't take adderall and it can help with boosting some dopamine back in your brain but i wouldn't do it daily because your body can rely on it for producing dopamine. Chelated magnesium is also good since apparently adderall eats away a lot of magnesium and it somehow is known to also help to prevent tolerance.

But if your doing them daily theirs not much you can do to prevent the tolerance/ lack of effects sometimes even despite of taking monster doses.

I'm going through the same thing eighty now. I usually take between 40 and 90mg at a time. I haven't take any in about two or three days so I'm going to take like 50 or 70 mgs today in hope of a Positive effect. Sorry this doesn't help.

Well sorry i don't know what else to tell you. If you want to maintain a "high" from adderall your best way to go is taking breaks in between days.... It works for me everytime.

Thanks for the replies! I've been experimenting with all the advice i've been given on here and research from previous thread. Here's a brief update- i've been taking about 3-4 day breaks in between usage in attempt to lower my tolerance. I prep for the next "adderall day" with a daily dose of chelated magnesium glycinate supplements during the breaks. I think it has been helping, but nothing TOO substantial. I went from taking 80, 90 mg and feeling nothing but frustration over the lack of positive effects, high anxiety, fast heart rate and severe insomnia to a pretty smooth, mild high and was able to sleep with some benadryl. (by no means, was I geeked up like the first few times). After the breaks, I started off with 30mg then went up 10 mg every 25 minutes until I felt content, which was at 60 mg. (still a high dose, but way better than 90 mg) I finally got some good effects of adderall back.... Slight euphoria, I was temporarily relieved from social anxiety, i was talkative, had a more positive outlook, motivated, and my favorite of all effects- music euphoria. I also tested taking adderall on 2 consecutive days. On the second day, I noticed that I was still feeling the effects but the euphoria/positive outlook/elevated music enjoyment diminished. I'd definitely recommend taking breaks between every time to keep the tolerance down and the positive effects up. I plan to take an extended adderall holiday to help with this as well. I'm going for 2 weeks.
