The different salts absorb at different rates. Adderall was an amphetamine blend selected for the best combination of pharmacokinetics and efficacy for weight loss.
Dexedrine lacks the small percentage of centrally inactive levoamphetamine that Adderall has. Many regard the small percentage of L-amp to make Adderall "edgier" and less euphoric.

Some people feel Dexedrine is better. Levoamphetamine causes anxiety issues for a lot of people because of its PNS stimulant action. Dextroamphetamine does not.

I was just switched from Adderall XR 30mg/day onto Dexedrine spansules 30mg/day and I have noticed a difference. While the come-up of Dexedrine is smoother, it lacks a certain "kick" that Adderall has. That boost of energy. I sort of miss that and have even thought about switching back. Another noticeable difference is that Dexedrine has a much smoother comedown, almost non existent compared to Adderall. So the l-isomer of amphetamine does change some of the effects. Also, I wonder if it has anything to do with mixture of the 3 d-isomer salts. Dexedrine just has the sulphate salt.

I took 5 40mg Vyvance xr pills. Complete crap. Adderall is the love of my life. I shall never stray from it's glory

By far the most effective ADD med is Desoxyn. Second most effective ADD med is instant release Dexedrine. But believe it or not, I think I like Adderall XR better than the Dexedrine spansule capsules. Therapeutically the spansules are more effective and smoother but Adderall has a certain "kick" that Dexedrine lacks. As you said, Vyvanse is complete crap. Besides methylphenidate it is the worse.
It is a shame more doctors don't prescribe Desoxyn anymore. It's very smooth and doesn't have that up-down, up-down feeling. I take 30mg Desoxyn with 30mg extended release Dexedrine. Works very well.

I wonder how many others agree w/ you that desoxyn is 'smooth and doesn't have that up-down, up-down feeling', as I was prescribed it for a bit (less than a half year ago, took it for a few months before switching back to Adderall, currently not prescribed ANY stim) and noticed a severe come down and thought it to be extraordinarily harsh. It felt 'dirty' to me. I had wicked headaches, didn't feel that same rush that adderall gave me. I could FEEL its potency in a way that is difficult to describe, but it did very little FOR me.
Back to original question (and such) : XR is the only form (vs IR) that comes in capsule form/bead form -- at least in my experience (anyone disagree/know that this is incorrect? I'm not saying that IR capsules do not exist, just that I have never seen/heard of them: thus, please set me/others straight if need be!) ** Also, as others have stated, you really just have to find out what works best for you. One really cannot say that a particular medication (in this case, for ADHD/ADD) is 'the best' as it is extremely subjective. Reasoning why there is a salt combo? - efficacy, as stated above. These salts in combination create a substance that is most useful for the purpose at hand. I definitely don't believe wikipedia is 100% accurate, but do think it has some great info and is easy (or, easier) to read in comparison to various academic documents/research papers -- for the average person

Well for me Desoxyn was so much smoother than dexamphetamine and had nearly no side effects. The comedown was a little more noticeable than with d-amp but throughout the duration I never noticed any roller coaster effect like with methylphenidate. I have been on Desoxyn for about 3-4 years. Take it with Dexedrine spansule capsules. What dose were you taking?
