Adderall prescriptions written in advance?

Yesterday I saw my psychiatrist which prescribed me Adderall XR and gave me a follow up appointment for FOUR months from now. So what he did was print three total prescriptions which each is the exact same the only thing different is on the two that I have left, in the comments section it says "May dispense 01/05/2015" and "May dispense 02/05/2015". The reason I ask is because I thought it was illegal to write prescriptions for ahead of time, and the original printed date is on the prescriptions so when I go to turn in the one that says "May dispense 02/05/2015" they will notice that it was printed 2-3 months ago, does anyone have any knowledge regarding this? Just concerned because I have had doctors mess up my prescriptions in the past.
 
The DEA said this was permissible in 2007. Why the didnt just allow refills is beyond me but it is good for patients.
