Stimulants Adderall making Oxycodone Ineffective.

I have Fibromyalgia, among other things, and my doc just prescribed me 10mg generic Adderall XR. I also take 10mg generic OxyIR/Roxicodone PRN for pain. I have found the Adderall basically makes the oxycodone not work. Doesnt even feel like it kicks in. I usually take 10-15mg max through the course of the day and at that dose I usually get at least a little nausea/itchiness. Yesterday I took the Adderall for the first time since I was a 5 and I ended up taking 30mg oxyir before 6pm and felt almost nothing. I've never taken that high of a dose in a day so I'd think I'd feel a little sick or something but no. Anyone experience this? Can anyone explain why this happens or a way to fix it? On another note the adderall helps better than anything for WD's.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Adderall is an amphetamine stimulant. It, like most stimulants, counter-acts many of the effects of opiates (like oxycodone). However, the painkilling effects of oxycodone shouldn't be counter-acted by the Adderall.

I've noticed that, at least for some people with fibromyalgia, stimulants tend to make their pain worse. If this is the case with you (not saying it is - just saying its possible), that could explain why your oxycodone is less effective.

Actually many aspects of my fibromyalgia where greatly diminished by the Adderall. The fibro fog, most of the pain, fatigue, anxiety, forgetfullness, etc. It worked better than anything I've ever taken for my illnesses and I've tried almost everything there is. So I was kinda bummed it blocked out the opiate effects almost entirely for me. If I cant find a solution its going to be a less-used tool in my arsenal which would suck because it helps a lot.

Also I know for sure it blocked out the opiate because 15mg over the course of 24hrs would make me pretty sick, nevermind 30mg in less than 12hrs. I was baffled I wasnt high as shit puking my lungs out.

yeah, uppers counteract downers,... narg.. but it wont cancel it out all together. i just want to say, be careful with this, sounds like you have a very low tolerance, and this interaction could end that quickly. whenever a colleague of mine managed to get adderall, which is very beneficial for work, studying, hed find himself doing waay more of both going back and forth between the two, feeling sped up n wanting to slow down, and vice versa. i find its best to regimen the two and use just a little opiate in the day (or when u need to be functional, and treat the adderall like normal people trat espresso. especially if your new to adderall, it can have a long duration.

Thanks for the advice man but that shouldnt be an issue as I take my meds as prescribed. But thanks anyway fam. Also I find downers usually speed up time and uppers make time go by really slooowww... My problem is, tho, I cant get pain relief, nothing out of my pain meds when the adderalls kicked in. I would be in WD's if it wasnt for the Adderall helping with it. But as soon as it wears off, bam I'm almost falling asleep siting up and im sick as fuck.

you can always take less adderall, swim used to split those xr capsules into 2-3 doses. i fully respect your dosing as directed, but i think any dr. woul condone experimenting with less. j find a little adderall goes a long way.

^This is a good suggestion, try less and report back.

I split my Adderall XR 30mg capsules in to 3-5mg XR doses, anything more becomes too much when dosing it on top of either Vyvanse 30-40mg or 10mg dexedrine XR. Levoamphetamine is surprisngly potent, especially in terms of PNS effects, so I don't like taking more than 30% adderall in a dex/amphetamine dose, but then again I take it for ADD, not for the stimulant effect.

IMO, opiates (IV heroin aside, although I recommend against using heroin, especially IV) are kind of difficult to combine with other drugs, and adderall in particular, doesn't play nice with other drugs, particularly opiates (even more particularly oxy, just like in this context), and the combo IME creates dysphoria if I dose anything higher than just above threshold with either of them (however, small doses of each is great in social situations), as not only does the oxycodone get overpowered by the adderall, but the adderall gets dulled by the oxycodone, and I believe that l-amphetamine is the reason for this, because d-amphetamine and oxycodone is a decent combo, and they don't seem to overpower each other either, however they don't synergize, but they combine fairly well.
IME, the only drugs that synergize with opiates like oxycodone or hydrocodone are DRIs. By DRIs I mean cocaine, ketamine and methylphenidate (the only way to enjoy MPH IMO is with opiates). I don't know why it is, seeing as cocaine/MPH are stimulants, and ketamine is a dissociative, but for some reason, DRI drugs seem to generally synergize with opiates very well. Even cannabis seems to ruin the opiate high for me.

IMO the opiate high is very fragile and subtle, and I typically don't mix it with anything other than nicotine, however many people seem to enjoy combining opiates with other drugs.

HOWEVER, with IV morphine-based opiates (which is to be avoided at all costs), particularly heroin, I find that it combines pretty well with almost all other drugs, even the dirtier drugs like adderall (or racemic methamphetamine), and alcohol.

NONE OF THIS MEANS THAT COMBINING DRUGS IS SAFE, COMBINING ANY OPIATE WITH ANY CNS STIMULANT OR DEPRESSANT IS DANGEROUS, AND IS TO BE PRACTICED WITH GREAT CAUTION. DOSE LOW AND TITRATE UP FROM PRESCRIBED (or commonly accepted as safe) DOSE.

Yesterday I took out 3-4 grains of salt out of the capsule, crushed it to a very fine powder and railed it. Very, very small amount of powder. I had just took a 10mg OxyIR for a cluster headache about 30 mins earlier and it was not helping as much as I hoped though I felt it quite strong and was lightheaded and my eyes felt odd and my vision was distorted a little. Anyway, I know they use cocaine to abort cluster headaches. I was desperate, so I tried the Adderall thinking if I insufflated some it would have a similar effect. Wrong. It cut the analgesic effect of the oxycodone by close to half and other than the itchiness all the subjective effects were gone. I was surprised because it was a ridiculously small amount and I barely felt anything from it. It kinda put my at baseline really. So I was in excruciating pain for 30 mins until it wore off then bam the painkiller kicked back in again full force. Odd. Also I do suffer from ADHD since I was about 5 also, so it helps with the fatigue/pain/fibrofog & my ADHD. I also noticed it helps with anxiety and depression. And helps some aspects of OCD, but I digress.

wow thats weird...

i find when i combined my dexedrine and oxy it provides a hell of a lot more euphoria, removes the groggyness to some extent and makes it much more enjoyable. i think they have excellent synergy combined. even more so in regards to adderall. the only time i managed to get ahold of addy, i took oxy on the comedown and it was one of the most euphoric experiences i've ever had.

however it sounds like you aren't liking it. maybe you should reduce the dose of adderall, or even perhaps bump up the dose of oxy. reducing the addy dose is probably the more sensible idea though. have you talked to your doctor about this? he will probably be able to titrated or even switch out the adderall for a more effective stimulant. maybe you should try dexedrine instead of adderall..
