Adderall Dosage HELP!

My doctor just prescribed me Adderall IR and is working on adjusting my dose 10 mg per week/2weeks. I previously took Adderall XR about 6 years ago (60 mg/day). My doctor now has me on 15 mg IR twice day. I take my morning dose around 8 AM and by noon I'm zoning out (my doc wants me to try to wait 6 hours between doses, which I have yet to accomplish). So I end up taking my 2nd dose around 12:30. By 4:00 I'm zoning again, and at 5 I'm exhausted. I can't even motivate myself to get dinner ready. It's taking everything I have not to take another dose at 4:00. Any tips or suggestions?

Other medications: Pristiq (50 mg) and Klonopin (2 mg/day, but I usually only take one at night).
 
I had a very similar problem to yours, my Adderall would wear off after a few hours. I eventually ended up switching from Adderall (XR) to Vyvanse. I find that Vyvanse lasts much longer - I only need one large dose in the morning, and I don't get that "spaced-out" feeling after 4 hours. I suggest asking your doctor if you could try Vyvanse. Alternatively, you could try eating 2 tums 30 minutes before you take your Adderall. This will delay renal clearance of the amphetamines and cause the drug to circulate in your bloodstream longer.

IR doses only lasts 4 hours. Change doctor, he doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about.
 
You were on 60mg XR of adderall a day and now on 15x2? A 60mg XR is 60mg then 60mg 4 hours later. I don't know how you're expected to change from 60+60 to 15+15 at all. That just doesn't make sense -- I really don't understand how a doctor would prescribe you 60mg XR a day? Is that like 30x2 or something? Because they don't make pills and that big and I've never heard of anyone being on that much.

I second the vyvanse notion as it lasts a very long time. That is as long as you don't care about abusing your pills.
 
Are you sure a 60mg XR is 60mg then another 60mg 4 hours later? I thought it was 30mg IR then a slow release of the other 30mgs. There is no way a 60mg adderrall XR gives 120mg total, doesn't make sense.

60mg XR is very common for ADHD. They take 2x 30mg XR pills in same time or spaced up by 1-2 hours depending on what the doctor says. 60mg XR = 2x 30mg XR = 4 doses of 15mg IR.

KSA is right. 60 mg XR = 30 mg XR 2x per day

Yeah, I think he's pretty conservative. In the meantime he is killing me. I feel like 15 mg 3x per day would be just right. I want to try it, but I only have a 2 week supply.

I'm going to try the Tums. The thing that concerns me is when I'm on XR I space out too. You don't have that problem with sleepy/spacey spells on the Vyvanse?
 
Wouldn't 60mg XR be two 30mg XR pills taken at once ? Or did you take 30mg once in the morning, then another later in the day ?

Because one 30mg XR is like 15mg IR then the leftover 15mg is slowly released over time. Half of the beads are basically IR and the other half are XR. It usually causes a feeling of up, down, then up again though not as much.

If I do get spaced-out on the Vyvanse, its much later in the day than with the other meds I was taking. If I don't have much work to do in the morning, I'll take my dose as late in the morning as I can, which gets me through the whole day.
 
I was prescribed Adderall for a few years and had a healthy habit of it(makes me paranoid and tweaky now, though). In my experience, you're never going to get the full effect of adderall as long as you're supposed to. If it's quitting 2 hours before it's supposed to, wait 2 hours before taking enough. Sometimes you just have to tough it out and wait. If you start taking it everytime it quits working, you'll end up taking way more than you need to.

I wouldn't play with thums, unless nothing else works. Well, waiting 6 hours for your second dose is fuckall so the first thing to do is to take the second dose 4 hours after you swallow your first instead of 6 hours. Precision was needed because some people understand 4 hours after it kicks in...that's too late. 4 hours after you swallow.

This is mildly related... Can anyone tell me the mass of spansules inside a 20mgXR capsule? A bunch broke open and spilled.

Measuring the mass can be errornous especially if the bids catch humidity or if the scale is innacurate. Much better to measure the volume inside a capsule since the bids are very small.
