Hello everybody. I got back on Adderall about 1 month ago April 19 to be exact. I had been off of it since 2008. I was on 5mg twice a day for the first 2 weeks. My insurance covers basically everything but adderall if I am over 21 I have to pay for all of it so I was only being able to afford 15 out of the 30 script that the doctor wrote out.

This was a huge inconvenience cause I was having to drive a 25 minute haul up to his office every frickin 2 weeks for a new prescription. If you know amphetamines then you know tolerance develops very fast so after that first 2 weeks I got switched to 10mg twice a day but after that 2 weeks I seen it was cheaper to just get 30 of the 20mgs & break them in half. I had been mainly using them for work cause I work from 8:00pm to 3:00am 4 nights a week.

I started taking them on my days off cause I was falling asleep in the middle of the day. I've been on methadone maintenance since January but am coming off of it 3mgs a week since last month I am now down from 100mgs to 88mgs so far. This is my 3rd time in the methadone clinic and I've always got the bad side effects so I never was able to stay on it for long.

This time on the methadone it is weird cause I am not high and not really nodding out just falling asleep really easy like if I lay on the couch at 1pm & try to read a magazine or anything I fall asleep and my energy is way down from the methadone. I am just tired all the time and It starts about 3 hours after my dose.

The adderall has been a godsent as of lately. I apologize for this thread being so long but this as of rite now is how I am able to get you guys to know everything that's going on with me. Alright so I am only on 20mgs of immediate release adderall which I am prescribed to split in half and take 10mgs twice a day. I had been getting the adderall from cvs & publix but last time I got it from Costco cause it's cheaper.

The ones from costco were not the same they didn't have that candy taste & they were manufactured by Sandoz. I think they made me alot more jittery and nervous as hell. I ran out of them a week early cuz the last script I had said do not fill untill after June 2nd when I got 15 filled on the 13th so anyway after a week off of them I got the whole 30 refilled today and they were the Barr manufactured again. I thought that since I had been off of them for a week that I would of been fine taking a half of the 20mg pill but I felt nothing8( so about 30 minutes later ( did I not wait long enough?) I took the other half & I felt a little but was still kinda tired so I took another half an hour later which brought me up to 30mgs. and I am fine now.

I am just wondering is it cause of the different manufactures or what cause being off them a week and going from different generic ones I would of though a half a pill ( 10mg) would have done fine. Oh also has anyone ever had stomach bloat from adderall cause after taking them in the afternoon my tummy gets so bloated I could pass for pregnant and it aint pretty. I also notice that they work better in the morning before noon. Is there any trick or whatever to fighting the tolerance or maybe making them work better. Alright I am going to stop. I appreciate anyone who can help with any of these annoying setbacks. Thx Renee

Sometimes generics can be SLIGHTLY less effective than brand names, but it shouldn't be THAT different. Maybe your tolerance is rising because for some people AMP tolerance jumps extremely quick. Also, if you are drinking orange juice or consuming other foods high in citric-acid vitamin c that could reduce the effect. Honestly though, your experience is pretty strange.

You sure did write a lot of text for somebody who has taken "weak" Adderall ;) And, as LOGan1314 mentioned, amphetamine tolerance grows pretty rapidly.

We don't allow discussion of brand name vs. generics vs. another company on this site because the difference is, if there is any at all, small enough that it doesn't matter in the first place. Combined with the wonder of the placebo effect - its impossible to tell you if different brands are "weaker" than others.

About my post being so long I already apologized for that in my post. I just was trying to let it be known that I was on methadone also and doses ect..... I do not know alot of the rules on here I am rarely on this site. Maybe 20 times since I joined in 2008 I believe. I have seen alot of brand, generic being discussed on here so really didn't think it would be a problem. I just wanted some info. Thanks for your time. Renee

I have heard that Adderall is one of few medications where there is a lot of flexibility in the consistency among generics. I suppose this is because the ratio of the amphetamine salts can vary slightly. Your post caught my attention because once, as an Adderall user, I took the Costco route in favor of their competitive price. I ended up with a generic that I was not accustomed to, and with a notable difference in quality. If I remember correctly, they were a lighter shade of blue, an oval shape, a much tougher binder/coating (very hard to crush), and a sweeter taste. I also remember noticing that they we "weaker" or "smoother." Perhaps they have slightly higher d- to l-amphetamine ratio.

I've seen a lot of talk in forums about certain generic Adderalls being more preferable to users. There is one that is considered to be closest to the original patented drug formula. This could be drug addict ritual superstition however.

Yes costco has different kinds than I am used too. It sucks that after only a month I can barely feel them anymore. They are bloating me really bad anyway so I will probably lay off them for a while and only use for wrk if I get stupid tired before 3am. Thank You very much for sharing your experience. You have a great day. Take care!

Outside of factoring in the user's tolerance, I think the extent to which Adderall is effective has a lot to do with the amount sleep the user is running on when a dose is taken. I remember a very frustrating, stiff and brain-dead feeling that I attributed to lack of sleep and nutrition. It arrived about the time when the dose should have kicked in, and it was almost like the opposite of the desired effects.

Ironically it resembled the feeling one might experience after having overslept. That is, after 12 hours of sleep instead of the ideal 6-8 hours (when you might sleep through the sunrise and miss out on a natural morning brain chemical release.) Sometimes it would happen when I would take a dose that was irregular to the schedule I had developed. Taking caffeine in a pill form often seemed to be a solution.

This, more likely than anything else it's just a result of increasing tolerance. I'm going to close this as per the comparison of generics rule, but if you'd like to still discuss the other aspects of increasing tolerance and what one can do about it, I invite you to search around, as there are many threads that cover it. If you still don't find what you're looking for, feel free to start up a new thread sans the generic comparison part. PM any questions.
