Hello all, for anyone who knows me will know I was on a serious amount of opiates for chronic pain and iv been off them 18 months now (With the exception of tramadol a few months back) iv recently had 4 sessions of accupuncture but can't say I noticed any difference in my pain.
Has anyone else had it? Did it work for you? It seems a gimmick to me

Years ago I had a couple of sessions of acupuncture at my DSP.
It was for treatment for heroin addiction. From what I recall the first two times I had several needles placed at various points on my ear and then just left to lay in a quiet room for half an hour.
After that they placed tiny magnets on my ear that were left on during the day from what I recall.
I can't say that it did anything for me as I continued to use heroin at the same rate as I had been before the acupuncture.

Lol..yep I had it done ...once..

I also am a long term user of opiates/opioids. I had the acupuncture done to help with horrible migraine that had been lasting for several days plus chronic pain (back, legs, hips). I had this done by an actual MD who also is "certified" for acupuncture at the urging of my pain management doc. Btw, insurance ended up not paying so I was out $150 bucks.

They placed the needles in various places...head, face, arms, feet, lower legs and abdomen while I was laying flat on my back on a warming blanket on top of a water bed type mattress then was also left to lie there for about 30 mins (at which point he came back in, gave a little twist to some of them then left me alone again for a bit). I left my jeans and loose shirt on as he just had me unbutton my pants and lower the waist down a little and pull the pants legs up to accommodate the ones in lower legs. I did remove my shoes and socks. When he was putting the needles in (which was not painful to me at all, he actually was concerned that I had reduced feeling/pain perception because I didn't even flinch when he placed them)I experienced a feeling of extreme relaxation and a tiny bit of head rush. I was excited and thought maybe there really is something to this. I went into it with a totally open mind..willing to try anything for my pain.

So the point to the story is, when I left (and my oldest son had went with me because I didn't know what to expect) I was driving home and all of sudden moved a certain way, had a pretty intense pain in my stomach area. I had to pull over and get out of the car. I lowered my jeans down a little and there were 2 needles he had inadvertantly left in my stomach area! I had moved just right causing my jeans I guess to push them all the way into my abdomen! I immediately grabbed them without thinking by the little tip sticking out of me and pulled them out. My son (LOL) immediately begain to throw up when he saw all of this!

I called the doc he tried to blow it off. I suffered no long term damage but needless to say I will never have accupuncture done again! (BTW, it didn't absolutely nothing for my headaches or pain and the asshole still billed me for it even after that happened!)

I have chronic severe nerve pain and I decided to give acupuncture a go since I could get a couple of free sessions. They roped me into a series of paid ones with some kind of 2 for 1 deal after that. I thought if I was going to try it might as well do it properly.

Complete waste of time. If anything it is like a form of meditation I think, was very relaxing lying there for 20 mins with the pins in me. Which is, I suspect, the reason it 'works' for so many things - being relaxed and content in the mind would reduce many ailments to a degree I would think.

Can't see any logical basis how it would actually genuinely help for anything. Massive money-making scam imo

Inso - sounds like we are in the same boat. Thing is I got it on the NHS I can't understand why they give it on the NHS unless they do it as a placebo?

Same reason they give Homeopathy, same reason they give antibiotics out to people they know don't need them, the power of placebo is incredibly strong.

I've had it suggested to me for various things but can't say I'm convinced.

I did the rounds of alternative medicine some years ago trying to find an effective treatment for Psoriasis, spent a fair amount all told. the only thing that helped at all was Chinese herbal medicine, not surprising since much of it does contain active chemicals derived from plants, but after 3 months I just could face drinking the stuff any longer, I could smell it all the time and since you have to boil the stuff up daily the house stank of it as well.

I saw quite a well respected homeopathist for a good while and followed all instructions on diet and other stuff to the letter, absolutely no effect what so ever.

I've soaked in the dead sea and brought the salts to use at home, no effect at all.

Hardcore medication was the only thing that got it under control in the end, in most cases there is no harm in giving it a shot, placebo should not be under estimated.

I even had someone try and balance my chakras on more than one occasion, they seemed quite perceptive regarding my general well being but it didn't help the condition.

I think conventional medicine has a great deal to be proud of in terms of successfully treating many conditions and in many cases providing hard evidence of it's success rate, it's a long way from perfection but at least it doesn't rely on some long haired weirdo that stinks of petula oil, the mere exposure to such hippies is enough to precipitate many common condition in itself .

nope. that you have speaks volumes, though

I considered one oh your behalf sir, twas a glib comment and given the time and my current state not a bad effort at a friendly jibe.

Clearly as I'm getting on a bit I have explored the possibility of gaining sexual gratification via that orifice but to little effect, I reserve it for expelling waste and plugging chemical these days but I guess I'll revisit the other options at some stage, I'm not hung up on the issue.

where you been hiding anyhow ? hope all is well

I had two visits that my insurance paid for back in the 90's. It didn't do a thing but the Doctor assured me if I continued at $225 a visit I would get results. I had arthroscopic surgery and that fixed the problem. Insurance through work mans comp paid the bulk of it.

I found it something nice and relaxing when i had it but it didn't stop me from smoking gear. I also had these little ear seeds once. It does do something but what that something is is a mystery. My sister pays for it for her and my dad. My dad says it helped his sholulder a bit and his knee. My sister is still a moody bitch.

Depends on what you're getting treated for..
I've a fucked neck that causes muscular spasms - they basically lock up ( or occasionally vibrate/ripple which is funny as fuck to watch ).
Acupuncture seems to work for that ( though I'm guessing its an actual physical response to the needles preventing the muscles from staying tensed ).
Also have a friend with Lupus - They say it works for them ( chronic joint/muscle pain ).
But then we're both getting treated by people who have actually studied at the RCC, rather than someone who just set up shop with a mail-order degree..
