Ive heard a myth about acid that the first time you take it, it changes your brain or something like that. is this true? or does one calm down from it with no changes and feels fine. Ive always wanted to try acid ,but this myth gives me second thoughts.

I know that it may bring out pre-existing mental conditons ,but i smoke pot and do other shit like pills occasionly and did meth once and i came down fine with nothing coming out but its probably different with psychedelics right?

Psychedelics are one of the least pharmacollogically damaging classes of drugs.

your brain wont fry after one trip... but you may view the world a little differently after! A lot of people will try to scare you out of doing it (ex. someone once told me "dude if you do acid you'll have to pee sitting down the rest of your life!") Do what you wanna do man, lucy is amazing in the right mind set and can do a lot of good as well as bad things to your mind psychologicaly, but not so much physicaly =D

I never noticed any permanent change after my first trip but after heavy use

It helped to break down barriers in my thought process

Which was good thing , it made the world feel more mysterious and beautiful :)<3

pretty much anything anyone ever told you about drugs isn't true. i say don't listen to those people and just do tons of reading here on BL and on erowid.org, then you can have factual information :)

...mdma doesnt put holes in your brain, if you take acid 7 times it does NOT make you insane, acid does not stay in your body forever and flashbacks are highly unlikely....

see what i mean?

your brain is constantly changing. when you are reading this thread your brain is changing in a way that's different way than it would change if you were outside going for a walk.

another similar thing i've read sometimes is "taking lsd alters your gene expression" which makes a lot of people think that it somehow fucks around with your genetic information in a pathological way, when it simply means that different genes are activiated at a given time, which happens constantly. you can also alter your gene expression by for example drinking a cup of coffee, eating a slice of bread or going for a walk.

Acid will most definitely change your brain while under the influence ;)

But one trip isnt likely to permanently change your head. Habitual use, however can change your thought process a little. This doesnt have to be a scary or negative thing, infact its what I love about psychedelics.

The first time I took acid it definately changed the way I saw the world, and not to sound lame, but it did permanently alter my consciousness and the depth of my understanding. I don't feel like any of that had to do with brain chemistry, though-- just that the experience was a meaningful one.

Well your brain changes from basically everything so it's not so special that LSD should do it as well. What you could be wary about is radical nasty big changes but those are ghost stories. On the other hand, if you are somewhat unhinged just being you and you don't realize it well enough, LSD can exacerbate this and start you on a road you didn't know you were already leaning towards before.
Generally speaking, if you are unfit to trip it should be evident from things whether it is your distinct insecurity about the whole ordeal or your obsessive scatterbraining... Stability is a good point of departure! :)

Now, leaving the brain entirely an experience with LSD might very well change your perspective permanently. This can mean a lot of things but the most important of it is that it may show you such broad or deep things about yourself or the world around you that you could never forget that something is up with it. It may stir up a lot of questions that won't melt for the sun but if are not afraid of getting te world in general I would say this is a good thing.
It comes with some responsibility and with a direction but what you make of the rest is up to you.

Sometimes it's not really like this and your life is not that changed by it the first time, for some people this shift doesn't happen but for others it's like learning about a deeper nature that can sometimes be difficult but with the good approach rewarding and very very real.

My first acid trip was life changing.

And i mean that in the best ways possible....

It can change the way you look at the world and how you see yourself in this universe.

as far as the actual function of the brain?
Possibilities of flashbacks or to a worse degree HPPD.

And from my experience, flashbacks are rare and not as bad as the media makes them out to be.

thxs for all these great answers guys. i think i will try it but once i fell like im ready for it.

you'll be fine buddy. i believe this would be an appropriate time to insert an excerpt from some writing i did on acid:

"If only everyone knew it was all right there at their fingertips; everything they've ever thought feared, hated, loved, wanted... it's all right here. Most people just loose the ability to see how wonderful and easy it all can be if you just eat a tab and talk a walk through a forest with a friend."

:]

Okay listen, psychedelics will change you, but it's not the drug that will do this it is the experience of what your mind has been missing without it, it is an emotional experience for your brain, it's like finally giving a proper thank-you back to your mind for sticking with you for so long. I do LSD at least once a week, it is also not an addiction, I just love to think in this altered state of mind, it helps me wrap my brain around things that I would overlook in everyday life. I will never stop doing psychedelics because of what they have helped me achieve, they never turned their back on me unless you count tolerance so I will never turn my back on them. My advice is when you are having a great day much down some acid or mushrooms or even 2CB and have an experience of a lifetime. Happy trippin' :)

LSD... I learnt so much from it, the feeling it gives you of just looking at something then in your mind destroying it, reducing it as far as you can to see whats left, whats real, what it really is behind the image, behind everything. It will allow to step outside yourself(the first time you do this you relize what yourself really was) and see so many different persectives. It can be anything, indeed it is what you are.

There isnt anything to fear with psychs just be very cautious with SET&SETTING also a big one for me is make sure you know who/if/when you will run into someone, its the unexpected things that will throw you off on a trip, so just make sure your real cozy for 8 hours or so.

Man so much can be said for LSD and so little of it is negative. The pros very much out wiegh the cons. Fyi Alcohol is more harmful for you than LSD by a fair bit. As someone else said its among the least harmful substances out there. People always seem to think brain damage is a prerequsite(sp) to getting high. phh LAME

Enjoy your head, Enjoy your world, Before you leave it Dead&Cold. (idk that lame shit just came to melol)

I havnt actually done LSD in almost 3 years now, anxiety gets the best of me, i always worry it will get to stressful or i wont be able to handle something that comes up and ill wig out or that ill just think of sad things and get stuck there. The number one thing you shouldnt do!
Go into it like a kid super excited going to disney land or sumshit and you will never have felt so alive and euphoric. Its straight up amazing and i wish i had some!

ty for all these posts guys. it really changed my view of acid. im going to try to get it the first opportunity i have!
