Acetone Wash of some of that dark brown mdxx

Hey, hi, how's it going?

I recently came upon a couple grams of some molly. It was sold as sass, which around these parts means that it is supposed to be mda... although it could very well be mdma. Supposedly the stuff is very nice, and has been giving people solid rolls off little more than 100mg.

I'm wondering if it is worth it to do a wash. I feel like the stuff is fairly potent, I just want to get some of that brown nastiness outta there. Does anyone know what the brown nastiness is? My stuff looks kinda like brown sugar when it is all clumped together. When smashing it up though, it has a brown that is not as dark - a dark tan perhaps.

Can someone give me some step by step instructions. I was thinking of using the method of putting epsom salts (heated) in the acetone to solidify the water content in the bottle of acetone, and then using 20ml or so for 1g of my material. I will stir the mixture around, and let it sit for a bit, stir some more. Give it a while of doing that, then dump out the acetone. throw the mdma into a coffee filter and sandwich that in between paper towels to soak up some moisture. Then let it sit, and let the rest of the acetone evaporate.

How long should I let the mdma sit out? Will it degrade sitting out for a couple of days?

Is it worth it to clean my stuff? Will I lose a lot of material? I don't think I'll lose more than 10% of the product based on the potency of the material. I think it is mostly impurities from the synthesis, rather than being cut down.

Please give me some thoughts on whether it is worth it do it, how it is done, why people skip the acetone wash and send their shit to the streets. I've seen it happen multiple times over the course of these past few years. I am curious. Please indulge me.
 
wouldn't worry too much about the brown impurities mate, i've never found it makes a difference. wouldn't be worth the hassle.

some of the best MD i've had was brown.

That's from the PIHKAL entry on MDMA. Once, I had some MDMA that was very white but still had a sassafras-y smell to it, which is unreacted materials from the synthesis. I decided to do a recrystallization with isopropyl alcohol, did it very very carefully, and the resulting crystals appeared tan-colored. After being fully crushed up, they had the appearance of finely-ground sand. They were a lot more potent than the original white powder, though.

Moral of the story: its very hard to tell much of ANYTHING about your MDMA/MDA from appearance. White isn't always pure, not-white isn't always impurities.

As for the original question, doing an acetone wash is unlikely to do any damage. You will undoubtedly lose a little bit of material from man-handling it - its really unavoidable no matter how careful you are. But, probably not more than a dose or two. If your stuff was impure, you'll lose a little bit of mass, but that mass wasn't going to make you roll anyway, so you wouldn't really be "losing" anything. If it was already pure, then you will only lose the mass from man-handling it. Leaving it out won't degrade it at all, that's perfectly fine.
