I haven't done opiates in several weeks but I got a hold of some strong opium. I've never done opium before so I don't know what the dose is for first-time user. The thing is I got the opium and got home and handled it with my bare hands and maybe 20 min. later I started feeling the familiar opiate effects. Is it possible for the stuff to get absorbed through the skin? I remember hearing that heroin can be absorbed through the skin what about this stuff? The effects im feeling are not minor but actually a pretty decent high.

Opium is not generally considered to be psychoactive when handled. Generally opioids don't make it across the skin barrier too well.
It is well known that many opiophiles experience phantom symptoms from being near opioids. Some people feel more relaxed, others get anticipatory nausea, and some even feel better the moment they know they're getting more opioids.
Unless you are smearing it all over your body, really handling ti vigorously, or making warm opium plasters, I doubt you are absorbing anything.

For damn sure, I get phantom symptoms just taking my prescribed pain meds out of the bottle, even when abuse isn't even on my mind, I definitely feel great when being around a lot of drugs too haha, if I was handling raw opium I'd probably be one happy camper.
Opiates excite me, too, beyond what should probably normally be. Saw someone take a Vicodin today, and just winced a little on the inside. Seeing a bottle of opiates sends me reeling, esp. larger pills (weird, but true). Once they are in me, I feel immediately better.

Scoring some gear, especially when you've let it go too long, is one of the best feelings. That moment when you're finally in possession can feel so great. Like a weight has been lifted off of you and a general pervading euphoria sweeps across your deprived brain.

this has always been so true for me as well i'll get it and then wait to use it because i already feel somewhat better

Sometimes I rub leftover seeds from my tea on my skin in the shower. There is no noticeable effect but it makes my skin butter soft.

Also, whilst living in Pakistan I made Laudanum out of my somniferrium plants, if I was to pour this on my skin and let it soak would there be any noticeable levels absorption due to the alcohol?
If you've done codeine and morphine, that's essentially what's in opium. For some reason opium feels slightly dreamy and almost psychedelic to me, but that's probably due to the copious amount of psychedelics I consumed in my teens. For some reason every drug is at least a little bit psychedelic for me, like coke gives me closed eye visuals and introspective states, and weed gets me way more tripped out than anyone else I know, usually people say that they just get lazy and happy and slightly euphoric.
And idk about skin absorbing opium, but if youre not down to smoke it, you can eat it and it's not bad, but smoking is the way to go IMO, although that adds a higher risk of addiction overdose and other problems. Opium is probably my favorite opiate, which makes sense since it's the natural source for opiates. It feels more spiritual and generally beneficial to my mind than the other opiates, even though there are way more euphoric opiates, like heroin, or oxymorphone, or the holy grail of opiate euphoria, hydromorphone. When I do any opiate besides smoked opium, I feel like I'm taking poison... Extremely euphoric poison...
Opium also contains thebaine and narcotine, which are stimulants, and papaverine and narceine, which are depressants. And it has a shitload of other trace alkaloids and possibly active non-alkaloids. They give it a more complex, stimulating high than pure morphine. And different strains can give different highs like weed.Bigfanofthemdrugs said:

Opium is GENERALLY around 12% morphine and 3% Codeine by weight, that means in an AVERAGE gram of opium there is 120 mg of morphine and 30 mg codeine. I love to mix 1-2 grams of opium with some warm milk and sugar, and due to the complexities of the makeup of opium (as mentioned above) the high is always unique.

This will be because if you use opiates/opioids orally you have to use higher doses (Especially opium, codeine, morphine and Heroin) which may to the on looker like the person cause they're taking a higher dose is 'more addicted'. Also it'll be considered more toxic orally because if you smoke heroin (Pure) you become somnolent/nod/pass out before you OD and I assume this is the same for opium. Where as using orally it's harder to get the dose correct (Especially if using a cut products/opium which isn't always the same dosage.) and you can easily OD if you're trying to take enough to get somnolent/nod.
You also have Thebaine in opium which can be toxic at certain doses.

Thebaine also counteracts the sedation and respiratory depression of morphine/codeine, especially in combination with narcotine. Might even counteract dope dick, since the similar strychnine was used as a sex tonic. Also opium has papaverine which is sometimes used for erectile dysfunction.
