Absolute BEST SSRI

Ive only tried Zoloft. i was taking 100mg, actually over that at the age of 14, fuckin retarded ass doctors!

I never received any horrible side effects. Dry mouth and high blood pressure was about it for me.

I'm off now and actually can be stimulated. I felt flat on zoloft. no downs, but no ups either.

Maybe other ssris are better.
 
I'm on Zoloft. I was on for two weeks then stopped (for a roll ;) ), and during/after that short period I had some erection/sexual problems. Now that I've been on it continuously for almost three months, I guess I just need a little extra work at getting off, but not too much of a problem.

Also, I just feel strange all the time. Like I'm in a dream, or as if I am in a film. I don't feel depressed anymore, and my anxiety is getting better though.
 
I know you were looking for everyones favorite ssri but I had to add something a little different. I have been taking Tramadol, just plain old ultram for pain and I have never found anything that helps me with depression more effectively. It may be short lived, I don't know, it may stop working tomorrow but I wanted to mention this. Even though it is not a medication indicated for the treatment of depression, it sure seems to work wonders on me, the day after I take tramadol I feel like 100 tons of doom and gloom have been lifted off of my shoulders. I don't know why it works for me, but it does.

There is no answer because every SSRI affects everyone differently. I've known people who have gotten their best results from effexor (I think thats an SNRI though), lexapro, zoloft........ unfortunately they all had to switch from SSRI to SSRI until they found the one that works for them.

For all those who say that SSRI's are all terrible, or say that one specific anti-depressant is bad; what experiences are you coming from? I'm curious since I've had a fairly good time on Zoloft, yet obviously there are a lot of people who haven't had such luck.
 
Ive had a great time on lexapro was my first and only try... its the bomb

SSRI to me is just helps my anxiety... other than that i dont notice it and it doesnt do much... Also on suboxone daily though but the combo works 4 me
 
I find lexapro (escitalopram) to be absolutely fantastic. I am on 20mg (two 10mg twice a day, I find this works better.)
 
I know its not a SSRI and you probally wont be able to get it prescribed as a antidepressant, but I have to agree with one of the above posters that mentioned tramadol.

Tramadol has been a WONDERFUL substance for me. I dont get any bad side effects from it unless I up the dosage above 150-200mg. 50mg (one pill) is a very effective daily dose for me.

The withrdawls from a daily dose of 50mg are not bad at all (but they will be from heavy use, so be carefull!)

I gave it a try for 6-7 weeks. It made me feel sort of zombified, made me quite impotent for part of the time, and it really never did that much for my depression. I think my depression was more of a normal teenage angst kind of thing and had to do with lots of situational problems and I had to learn with how to deal with the world and emotional pain, suffering, and loss. I eventually decided I didn't need SSRIs. Recreational drugs have always worked better at curing what I'd call, "acute depression."

Fortunately I don't suffer from constant depression anymore.
 
Only tried citalopram, but quit after <2 weeks because i couldn't feel pills when taking it lol :-/

That is by far the worst reason to stop taking antidepressants.
 
I have told about 5 of my friends to switch their anti's to lexapro, and they have all been blown away by it's mild side effects and MAJOR serotonin re-uptake ability. (edit/sp.) I believe it is the r-isomer of celexa, which is usually in doses up around 100mg if I'm correct? I take 20mg/day, so that is 5 times stronger at the same SSRI binding affinity.

Are there any newer anti-depressants with promising effects other than lexapro right now? I have Anxiety, which causes depression in which case I take an ssri.

I'm always trying to read or find information on the newest developments and pharmaceutical procuts, keep me updated for sure everyone! With love, Ryan

Tramadol a useful anti-depressant

I have to agree with the others here who have said that Tramadol worked for them as an antidepressant. I have tried Zoloft, Celexa and Lexapro to no avail. 50-75 mg of Tramadol a night has helped me a great deal with depression and to a lesser extent anxiety. The side effect profile at this dose is not bad at all. I would suggest people who are unresponsive to other therapies give it a shot.

how much time ya got?

i've been on them all, cymbalta, prozac, wellbutrin, lexapro, paxil, paxil CR, st. john's wort, imipramine, strattera, trazadone, etc.

lexapro has the least side effects and it still is giving me problems: insomnia, lack of appetite, muscle tension, back pain, severe nausea, restlessness, severe depression, suicidal thoughts, apathy, lethargy, irritability, drowsiness, etc.

not to mention the horrible withdrawals and brain shivers, ugh, hopefully it will start working soon
 
I'm surprised that no one's mentioned Remeron (though not a pure SSRI)...its antihistaminic effects helped my insomnia. And I felt that its SS/NRI properties were, how can I phrase this, gentler (?) than every other AD they had me on...:\
 
SSRI's never helped me too much.

Imipramine, is in my opinion the BEST antidepressant...when it comes to effectiveness.

Wellbutrin was great for me too, however it made me very anxious and induced hypertentension.

I have been on a multitude of antidepressants, and I can compare NONE to the WONDERS of Imipramine, which is considered a tricyclic med.
